Congratulations to the newest members of the Ghanaian family from across the global African diaspora! On?19th November, the?Third Diaspora Citizenship Ceremony?was held at the Accra International Conference Centre, marking a monumental step forward in Ghana’s commitment to deepening its engagement with the diaspora. In this historic event, the Government of Ghana proudly granted citizenship to?524 members of the African diaspora, strengthening the unbreakable bond between Ghana and the global African community. This milestone not only reaffirms Ghana’s leadership in diaspora engagement but also symbolizes a powerful embrace of unity, heritage, and shared destiny. Welcome home to all our new citizens—together, we continue to build a brighter future rooted in our rich history and shared aspirations. The citizenship ceremony, a testament to Ghana's commitment to its diaspora, was organized under the auspices of the Office of the President and the Ministry of Interior, with key implementing agencies such as the Diaspora Affairs Office of the President and the Ghana Tourism Authority playing pivotal roles.? The President of the Republic of Ghana in his address highlighted efforts His Government has made to make Ghana the Hub of Pan Africanism.? This historic Third Citizenship Drive at the record level is in the context of the strategic objectives of Ghana’s landmark Diaspora Engagement Policy, providing an invaluable opportunity for the historic African diaspora to reconnect with their heritage. It embodies the core principles of Return, Readmission, and Reintegration, fostering a deeper bond with the homeland and affirming Ghana’s commitment to embracing its global diaspora community. This initiative is a continuation of the "Year of Return" campaign, which commemorated the 400th anniversary of the arrival of the first enslaved Africans in Jamestown, Virginia. The success of this campaign laid the foundation for the "Beyond the Return" project, a decade-long initiative focused on deeper engagement and collaboration with the African diaspora. #ghcitizenship #diaspora #ghana #africa #ghcitizenshipceremony #diasporaaffairs #presidency #citizenship?

We have the best members ! Well done Sylvia Phaphali Adzitey, MPH, RN and Marilyn Azumah ! What a remarkable achievement! #GDNANurse #NCDs #hypertension
Mandela Washington Fellow 2023-University of Minnesota|| Winner GRNMA NR Best Nurse 2020 || NCDs Advocate || Mentor|| Maternal and Newborn Health Advocate
I am thrilled to share that Marilyn Azumah and I have successfully concluded our #LINCGrant #HypertensionInitiative— this project has taken significant strides toward empowering nurses to champion hypertension prevention, management, and control in the northern region of Ghana. This initiative would not have been possible without our remarkable partnerships and the dedication of all involved! In partnership with Ghanaian-Diaspora Nursing Alliance, Inc., we trained and equipped fifty-five 55 nurses from various districts in the region to become champions of hypertension management. These nurses are now equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to offer impactful hypertension self-management support to patients, fostering healthier communities.? #GDNA collaboration has emphasised its commitment to improving health outcomes in Ghana. Together, we have set a solid foundation to address hypertension management and make a lasting impact. Topics discussed included: 1. Overview of hypertension and treatment; this was facilitated by our cardiologist Abdul-Subulr Yakubu 2.?????The role of nurses in hypertension management and control was addressed by our nurse scientist, Prof Yvonne Commodore-Mensah, PhD, MHS, RN, FAAN?an associate professor at Johns Hopkins School of Nursing 3. Accurate BP measurement with the practical demonstration was handled by Marilyn Azumah? 4. Self-management support was facilitated by me to give a contextual approach to managing and controlling hypertension. We were honoured to have the Dean of the School of Nursing University for Development Studies join us as the keynote speaker. She highlighted the importance of nurse-led initiatives in hypertension care; this reinforced our commitment to empowering nurses, particularly in primary healthcare.? Through this project, we have developed a training manual for nurses and a poster on steps to accurate #BP measurement. We also donated 10 #BP monitors to five districts, ensuring that nurses have the tools needed to monitor and manage hypertension effectively. This will contribute significantly to improving hypertension control in underserved areas.? The Hypertension Initiative is a testament to the power of collaboration and the dedication of nurses to drive impactful change.? We are working hard towards sustaining this initiative to empower nurses across the country to assume their critical role as champions of hypertension management. This project is funded by the #LINCGrant of the Mandela Washington Fellowship with support from Ghanaian-Diaspora Nursing Alliance, Inc. Our sincerest appreciation goes to U.S. Department of State, IREX for making this possible. Thank you to everyone involved for your unwavering commitment and passion. Here is to continuing our journey toward better health outcomes in Ghana and beyond!? #Hypertension is a #silentkiller! Let us fight it!! #MWF #HypertensionInitiative #hypertension #Nurse-ledinitiatives #PrimaryCare #GDNA #LINCGrant?#nurses #FANCoD
