Bringing resilience to scale.
关于我们
The Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR) is a multi-donor partnership that supports low and middle-income countries to understand, manage, and reduce their risks from natural hazards and climate change. Established in 2006, GFDRR is uniquely positioned to scale the resilience agenda in these countries by providing funding and expertise for policy advice on improving disaster risk management (DRM) at national and local levels, as it relates to land use, building codes, public health, transport, and education, agriculture, environmental protection, energy, water resources management, poverty reduction, fiscal risk management, and climate change adaptation, among others. This advice, in the context of the World Bank’s policy-based lending, creates both technical capacity and financial incentives that enables formalization of policy changes for improved DRM. The Project Management Unit, located within the World Bank, manages grant resources to carry out GFDRR’s mission. Our Vision A world where communities and countries are more resilient to natural hazards, climate risks and other shocks, and the human and economic costs of disasters are reduced. Our Mission GFDRR helps communities and countries reduce risk, prepare for, and recover from disasters by integrating disaster risk management and climate change adaptation into development strategies and programs. Through these actions, GFDRR supports countries to implement the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and the Paris Agreement. #climateresilience in the context of school children is often about the quality and safety of the learning environments. #Disaster resilience in addition is about the life safety of the Children and their teachers. Poorly constructed or maintained schools still crumble under the force of earthquakes in many countries of the world. The good news is that this is a problem that we know how to solve. And the Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR), together with partners such as Arup international, and the #GADRRRES network, with strong donor and knowledge support from #Japan and other donors has been driving large scale impact mostly through development financing deliver by the World Bank education department. And documented the results for more than a decade now. Our ongoing work is expected to benefit 50 million new students. Do you want to partner to help benefit the next 50 million children and their teachers? Carina Fonseca Ferreira Taka Tsuda Keiko Saito Luis Benveniste Hayley Gryc Jo da Silva DBE

https://lnkd.in/eYqFYNf8 As we at the Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR) commemorate the International Day for #Disaster Risk Reduction on October 13, it's crucial to emphasize the importance of safeguarding schools from disasters to protect children's education and futures. Our Safer Schools program, launched in 2014, is a prime example of this commitment. By leveraging Japanese expertise in resilience and The World Bank's experience in financing safer school infrastructure, we have made a tangible impact over the past decade. The results speak volumes: we've supported 37 countries, ensuring safety for 700,000 schools and benefiting 143 million students globally. Our focus on large-scale investments is also evident in our work across countries like Colombia, Honduras, Mozambique, Nepal, the Philippines, and Türkiye. To date, we have mobilized over $3.5 billion for World Bank-financed school infrastructure projects, reaching approximately 184,000 schools and helping 50 million students. Our work does not stop here. Together, we will continue to drive global efforts in building safer, more resilient schools, ensuring that no child’s education is interrupted by disasters. By expanding partnerships, innovating solutions, and investing in the future, we are committed to protecting the next generation.
