No, this tenacious fella doesn’t detect ducts! 🚫 He’s a smoke detector with some beefy armor (duct housing) and some fancy metal probes (sampling tubes) that mount on the side of either the return or supply HVAC ductwork. When smoke enters those sampling tubes, the smoke detector in the housing picks it up and tells the fire alarm system to go into alarm. 🚨 Then, it shuts down the associated air handling unit so that smoke isn’t propagated throughout the building.
