How the world looks today is not reflected in most recruitment processes. Often, they are too straight. Too old. Too young. Too white. Simply too limited by someone's own narrow view of the world. But how can you expect to get the best out of recruitment if all the people available out there aren't fully and fairly represented in your process? And how can you be sure that the person you hire becomes all they can be if they don’t feel safe enough to be who they are? We built Equal IT based on our own experiences. Because we know what can happen when you’re not judged by what others think, but seen for what you're capable of. We know what it means for your ambition when you see someone like yourself represented in the tech industry. And we know for a fact that diverse teams outperform homogenous ones. Making sure that workplaces properly reflect how the world looks today is not only common sense — it’s common business sense. Equal IT is a mission-driven recruitment company. Through a non-biased process and strategic consultation, we build and retain diverse tech teams, helping people, businesses, and society thrive. DE&I is in our DNA; The clue is in the name. Honesty is essential in the workplace. But it’s not about being harsh or overly critical. True honesty is thoughtful, actionable, and rooted in empathy. Here's how you can make your feedback more impactful: 1. Practice Radical Candor Combine honesty with empathy. Example: Instead of saying “That meeting didn’t go well". Try, “Your idea is strong, but the presentation could benefit from a sharper elevator pitch.” 2. Be Specific Vague feedback like “Good job” or “This needs work” doesn’t help anyone.? Offer clear, actionable suggestions that provide a path for improvement. Example: instead of “Your slides need work” Try, “Simplify slide 3 and emphasize the key data point.” 3. Own Your Mistakes Admitting when you’re wrong shows humility and builds trust. Example: Saying, “I misunderstood the situation, thank you for clarifying” strengthens relationships and helps foster psychological safety within the team. When honesty is paired with kindness, it creates an environment where feedback feels empowering, not discouraging. Kindness is meeting people where they are. Helping them selflessly. Advocating for them behind the scenes without expecting personal gain. How do you approach giving and receiving feedback at work? Share your tips below!
