    Third party cookies vs third party data -- definitely NOT the same, but a common question. Here's how they are different: 3rd Party Cookies Definition: 3rd party cookies are small pieces of data stored on a user's device by a website other than the one they are currently visiting. They are created by domains other than the site the user is visiting directly. Usage: a) Primarily used for tracking user behavior across multiple websites. b) Enable advertisers to build detailed profiles of users for targeted advertising. c) Can track which sites a user visits, how long they stay, what they click on, etc. Think display remarketing (I visit your website => then see your remarketing ads on weather dot com due to your DSP bidding). 3rd Party Data Definition: 3rd party data refers to information collected by an entity that does not have a direct relationship with the user. This data is usually aggregated from various sources and sold to marketers and advertisers. Sources: Collected from various websites, apps, and offline sources by data aggregators. Includes demographic data, behavioral data, purchasing history, psychographic, movement data, and more. Usage: a) Used to enhance customer profiles and for audience segmentation and personalization. b) Helps businesses target ads more effectively by providing insights into consumer behaviors and preferences. It's an easy nuance to overlook in technical jargon city!
