Player Development Nerd - I help people impact the lives of athletes through carefully crafted plans, programs, and initiatives.
What do I do? How do I create impact? In 2016, I was hired as a Director of Player Development with no experience in the role or at the college football level. And these were questions I asked myself often. I had a framework and a foundation for what was asked of me. 1. Be there for the players. 2. Get them in the community. 3. Get them summer jobs. But I didn't have a detailed plan for sustained success in my role. When all the departments spoke up about what they were doing I was very nervous and felt ashamed because my updates were all over the place with no clear communication of impact. I felt the looks. Wondered if my role provide value to the everyday operations of our program. Going into year two I was asked by a coworker would I be interested in presenting to parents and prospective student-athletes at a recruiting event. I had two weeks to prepare and I ended up creating Beyond The Field. I couldn't turn this opportunity down and created a plan for what I had done and will do in player development. When the parents and players continued to ask questions I knew creating this plan was the start of the impact I wanted to create. After the presentation my coworker provided me more opportunities to speak with the recruits and our players. He also connected me with people in the city who would make this impact a realization. With the Beyond The Field plan in place I was able to create detailed, intentional generational impact at 3 universities for 5 head coaches. It is now my mission to help impactful sports professionals around the world create player development plans that create impact and remove confusion, stress, and the feeling of the unknown.
