To celebrate #BlackHistoryMonth GetKonnected honors a present leader. Colette Phillips is the President and CEO of Colette Phillips Communications, Inc. and founder of Get Konnected! Boston’s premier cross-cultural business networking event series. She and her communications firm provide strategic public relations and tactical support for stakeholder engagement, Diversity Equity and Inclusion Consulting, brand activation, reputation and crisis management, multicultural marketing, and executive coaching. ??? She is the recipient of numerous awards and accolades for her personal, philanthropic, and professional accomplishments. In 2024, and years prior, The Boston Business Journal listed her on its annual Power50 list of the most influential business people in Boston calling her a “game changer’ and a “movement maker.” As a savvy enterprising risk taker, she continues to pioneer inclusion for all. ?

As #GetKonnected highlights Black leaders this Black History Month we honor Fletcher "Flash" Wiley. A Harvard Law School grad and Boston lawyer and civic leader who shattered racial barriers in the city's legal, business, and professional communities. Wiley was the first Black chairman of the greater Boston chamber of commerce. Raised in Indianapolis, Wiley made history as he was the first African American from Indiana appointed to a military academy out of high school, and first African American football player in his school. Wiley’s remarkable journey continues to inspire us, and we proudly honor his legacy.

During our month of February, we were able to honor impactful organizations in Massachusetts at our Black History and Lunar New Year Cultural Harmony Celebration. Today we highlight three impactful Black organizations that strengthen communities. These organizations are: Boston Ujima Project, Bams Fest and Haitian Mental Health Network at William James College. ??? #blackhistorymonth

This Black History Month, #GetKonnected honors past and present leaders. In Massachusetts, Ruthzee Louijeune is the first Haitian-American to serve in the Boston City Council. Ruthzee makes history as the first Haitian American elected to Boston municipal government, the U.S. city with the second largest Haitian population per capita. As Boston City Council President, Louijeune has chaired the Committee on Civil Rights and Immigrant Advancement and served as Vice Chairs of the Committee on Government Operations and Housing and Community Development. In these roles, she advocated for affordable housing, accessible homeownership, and teacher diversity —all in an effort to address racial justice and equity.

Today at #GetKonnected we honor Bayard Rustin as the strategic organizer behind the scenes for the Jobs and Freedom march with Martin Luther King. With his background as a part of the LGBTQ+ community, his presence at the time was considered controversial. Despite this, Rustin remained involved in marches and was recognized by MLK by his commitment to non violence. ??????

? Happy #BlackHistoryMonth! ? This month, #GetKonnected honors influential leaders who have uplifted Black voices. Today, we recognize Shirley Chisholm ????—the first Black woman elected to the U.S. Congress and the first to run for President. Breaking barriers with her motto "Unbought and Unbossed," she fought for racial and gender equality, education, and social justice.
