Uniting for Change: Tackling Gender-Based Violence In Istog today, Valbona Demaj, Floriana Maxharraj, and Nurie Arifi—local women leaders from different political parties—came together to initiate a campaign against gender-based violence. Inspired by diaspora mentor Vera Mjeku through GERMIN’s Diaspora for Women in Politics project, they demonstrated that collaboration across political lines is essential when addressing critical social issues. With 2,600+ cases of gender-based violence reported in Kosova last year (over 85% against women) the event brought together key local stakeholders, including representatives from the municipal assembly, Kosova’s chief prosecutors’ office, and other institutions, to push for stronger action and support. We are happy that the first community foundation in Albania, made possible through the generosity of diaspora donors, has become a reality. This weekend, some members of the GERMIN team had the pleasure of being hosted by Leonard Olli, the coordinator of the Kor?ar?t Ndihmojm? Kor?ar?t Community Foundation in Kor??. Launched last year by The Global Albanians Foundation, the Kor?ar?t Ndihmojm? Kor?ar?t initiative was inspired by Dr. Yvonne Naum, a 90-year-old philanthropist based in Seattle with roots in Kor??. This foundation supports local organizations that work with various societal groups. 25% ROI in 100 Days: Diaspora Mentorship Accelerates Albanian Women Entrepreneurs’ Growth with AI In early 2024, Germin launched a project—funded by the U.S. Embassy in Tirana — to connect Albanian women entrepreneurs with top global mentors from the Albanian diaspora. One of the standout pairings was London-based AI & Strategy expert Arta S. as the mentor and Eldisa Cirogu PhD, co-founder of Albanian startup Commercey / Bot Medics Care, as the mentee. ??The goal was clear: scale the healthcare business globally, despite limited local resources and AI expertise.
