We had to wait until Saturday morning to hear Inga Schiffler’s presentation on “Leichte Sprache” but it was worth the wait! The ATA German Language Division’s Distinguished Speaker shared her expertise and insights as one of Germany’s leading authorities on easy-to-read and understand language and took us behind the scenes of a world few of us had known anything about before, including interpreting German into easy-to-understand German in settings such as the Special Olympics, court situations and educational conferences on legislation on the rights of people with intellectual and other disabilities. Thank you, Inga Schiffler, for coming to Portland for #ATA65!

Today, Megan Falk of the #GLD delivered a compelling presentation on the critical role of language in addressing ableism and promoting equity for people with disabilities. Her insights emphasized the importance for translators and interpreters to recognize and avoid ableist language, fostering more inclusive communication across cultures. #ATA65 American Translators Association
