Last week, the German Consulate General in the Midwest held its first Restoration and Renaturalization ceremony of the year. Ten individuals officially became German citizens– a milestone in their journey’s and a testament to the values of democracy, inclusion, and resilience. While we celebrate new beginnings, we must ansi never forget the past. Our history reminds us of the responsibility we have to uphold justice, equality, and human dignity. Consul General Michael Ahrens spoke at the ceremony. “The restoration of citizenship is not just a legal act, it is a symbolic act of reconciliation.” He remarked. “[It reaffirms] the values of democracy, tolerance, and freedom. It is a reminder to all of us that history should never be forgotten and that we must continue to build a society that learns from the mistakes of the past.”?
