Today marks 1000 days of war in Ukraine. On February 24, 2022, the world watched in horror as Russia invaded Ukraine in an unprecedented act of aggression. "For almost 1000 days now, Putin's war has been shaking the everyday life of Ukrainians to the core—yet not their courage and their hope of a life in safety in a free Ukraine," German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said during her last visit in Kyiv. Germany has remained unwavering in its support for Ukraine. We are the second-largest donor of humanitarian and military aid to Ukraine, providing nearly 40 billion USD since 2022. And we have significantly increased our defense investments, reaching 2.12% of our GDP in 2024. These contributions, like dedicating a 100 billion EUR fund to modernizing military hardware and stationing a permanent brigade in Lithuania by 2027, reinforce Germany's role within NATO and bolster European security. Germany stands with #Ukraine.

#HardConversations are always easier with a little bit of sugar. Glad that the #GAC2024 attendees love our German Consulate cookies. #Germanamericanconference German American Conference

The theme of this year’s German American Conference is “Hard Conversations.” Conversations about how to address and properly remember historical injustices often are particularly hard, in Germany and the U.S. CG Kreibich was honored to join a conversation today on how to best approach them and what to learn from Germany's culture of remembrance. #hardconversations #gac2024 #germanamericanconference #erinnerungskultur #remembrance

Precision manufacturing and German – why these two go together particularly well, and why Connecticut and UConn provide just the right ecosystem for internationally-minded engineering and business students, was the recurring theme of yesterday’s “Germany on Campus” Symposium and Company Expo event at UConn. Germany is CT’s #1 economic partner. Many German world leaders in precision manufacturing call CT their home in the US. And the dual degree programs EUROTECH and EUROBIZ at UConn prepare students for a career with these companies. CK Kreibich was honored to open the company panel with Dr. Christine Benz (TRUMPF North America), Marie-Anne Caye (Henkel), Peter Tolmei (ebm-papst), Jonathan Leach and Dave Gould (MTU Aero Engines North America), Michael Haaser and Will Trickett (Stopa America Inc) and Tom Siemieniak and Sujan Guhathakurta (fischer fixings LLC) moderated by Ted Fisher (AdvanceCT). Jan Lüdert, Ph.D. of the German Center for Research and Innovation (DWIH) New York the keynote speech of the symposium on “Transatlantic Innovations: Building Intercultural Citizenship Across the Disciplines.” Congratulations to the University of Connecticut and Anke K. Finger for putting together such a convincing showcase for EUROTECH and EUROBIZ. “Germany on Campus” is a program of the Embassy of Germany in Washington, D.C. #uconn #eurotech #eurobiz #germanyoncampus

Today, the 2024 UN Climate Change Conference (COP29 Azerbaijan) kicks off in Baku, Azerbaijan. 20,000 representatives of the member states will present their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) for 2035. What does Germany have to report? ??Germany's energy transition is well underway, proving that the transformation to a climate-friendly economy is possible in a highly industrialized country. The share of renewable energies is steadily increasing, the coal phase-out is accelerating, and emissions are decreasing. ??Renewable energies are the key to a safe, independent, and sustainable future. They free us from our dependence on fossil fuels and foster peace by preventing climate-related conflicts. Currently, renewable energy accounts for 60% of electricity production in Germany, and Germany is investing in its expansion. ??Germany promotes the development of clean energy markets and invests in innovative technologies, working together with partners like the United States on solutions for a sustainable future. This transformation is creating new opportunities for economic growth and technological innovation—like the creation of millions of jobs worldwide, including in the US. To achieve our climate goals, we must come together. That is why we are sharing our experiences with partners as they embark on their own energy transformations. Germany is committed to global climate protection and has the energy to change. ?? #COP29
