This weekend wrapped up another amazing conference at the annual American Society of Consultant Pharmacists conference in Aurora. Welcomed with a Snowy Arrival, the theme for this year was #PracticingatthePeak emphasizing strategies, collobarations, and novel approaches geriatric pharmacists can establish in care! As always it's an incredible joy to meet some of the mentors, researchers, and pioneers in Aging-Friendly initiatives and learn from the best geriatric pharmoctherapy specialists in the game! I'm proud to call ASCP my home and want to express my deepest thanks for inviting me alongside my brilliant colleagues - Leigh Davitian, Jaron Stout, Thea Blysthone, and Courtney Myers to present "The Future of Innovative Billing Pathways for Clinical Pharmacists". Now is the time for geriatric pharmacists and owners to start exploring different care models, where Courtney detailed how she's developed her business using Medicaid Reimbursement and Jaron focused on the power of Collobaration with Prescribers and Incident to Billing. I have to give a special shoutout to Thea, although she wasn't able to make it in person, what she has grown these past few years with RPM billing is nothing short of amazing! This is where the future of Geri-pharmacy lies, so it was rejuvenating to have a great turnout with several audeince questions on how to get things started! Additionally, connecting with students, old friends, and making new acquaintances fills my cup! #2024ASCP

This is our time to bring insightful ways we can personalize Deprescribing within faith-based and Black communities who are tired of taking too many meds! Dr. Julius Wilder and Dr. DeLon Canterbury will moderate this discussion giving best practices and tips that you can take to your providers to kickstart Deprescribing Conversations. Have to extend my gratitude and appreciation for the National Aging Risk Services Risk Management Conference (NASRM) welcoming us to Chicago! Hosted by Caring Communities and Peace Church Risk Retention Group, the annual NASRM conference focuses on risk management, quality improvement, and promoting the culture of safety and belonging across the aging services continuum of care. GeriatRx presented the topic of “Why The Aging Industry Needs Deprescribing Implementation to Reduce Preventable Harm and Increase Cost Savings” and it was widely received! It was amazing conducting polypharmacy case presentations as a group and encouraging how policy can augment successful Deprescribing within CCRCs, ALFs, SNFs, and of course can augment Falls Prevention Strategies! We discussed how facilities can use these best practices and resources to kickstart Deprescribing within their organizations ! 4 Ms Model for Aging Friendly Initiatives VA’s VIONE Deprescribing Model Cost Efficacy or Precision Medicine in AGS Beers Criteria 2023 StopFall and STOPP/START STEADI Falls Risk Deprescribing.org US Deprescribing Research Network Partnership and Grant Opportunities What made me most excited was seeing how VPs and Directors of Quality Improvement across the country can see the impact and value of pharmacists and Deprescribing Advocates can have as a part of strategic risk reduction for our aging adults !! Can’t wait to see the success from this next year ! Chicago was such a blast !

Thoroughly enjoyed attending the Case Management Society of America and the Aging Life Care Association Annual Rooftop Celebration this past week in NY! We need Deprescribing partnerships and advocates within all spectrums of Aging so what’s keeping you from showing up?

Oktoberfest is Wunderbar! We’re back in action ! First time traveling through Europe and I am so grateful to experience new cultures, friends, and cuisines! It’s time to get back into the fold and close out the Fall strong !

Someone take me back to Kumasi, Ghana - Akwaside Festival This marked a well-celebrated Festival of the Ashanti Empire. This is the Akwaside Festival, known for its pomp and pageantry of the Ashanti Kingdom. The King riding in a palanquin and adorned with all his gold ornaments come out to receive the homage of his sub-chiefs and visiting tribes. What a spectacular sight to witness the colorful canopies, umbrellas, skillful drummers, dancers, horn-blowers, and praise-singers at these regular festivals, held in honor of their ancestral spirits. I managed to get permission to formally greet and bow to the King of the Ashanti tribe last summer! We visited Manhyia Palace, the official residence of Ashanti Kings (Asantehene) until 1974, which is now a museum containing treasured items relating to the Ashanti Kingdom. The Ashantis form the biggest population group in Ghana. For centuries they were the rulers in this region because of their well-organized society, and i appreciate how they rule the kingdom in familial pairs like uncle and nephew or sister and brother, but dont allow husband and wife to do so. Proud. Proud of my roots. Proud of our history!

The 2nd International Conference on Deprescribing did not pull any punches and it was truly amazing to feel the energy from Deprescribing Experts all over the world ! Topics ranged from prescribing cascades, engaging key stakeholders, to Deprescribing cimplementation ! #ICOD2

So many amazing rockstars, mentors, innovators, and gurus all in one room at the second annual International Conference Of #Deprescribing! Grateful we can advance care for both patients and clinicians on best practices to reduce inappropriate and harmful medication use ! #ICOD2

GeriatRx is taking a little break from the Deprescribing mission with our first Stop in Porto of our Eurotrip! Heading to Nantes for the second International Conference on Deprescribing then off to Paris and Oktoberfest in Munich !

Fun times partnering up with Slice325.org yesterday on our Food as Medicine Initiative in Warrenton for our Caregivers and Older Adults! We discussed the importance of lifestyle and integrative medicine along with prevention as the priority! Loved doing this !
