Excited to share this video where I had the privilege of speaking about innovation at Geosyntec! Just over a month ago, the San Diego Regional Water Quality Control Board (SDRWQCB) formally adopted the Watershed Management Plan (WMP) for San Mateo Creek in Southern California, which was developed in response to an aquatic invasive species Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL). This type of TMDL is the first in California, and one of only a handful in the entire United States. The TMDL was issued to remediate invasive aquatic species such as carp, green sunfish, and bullfrogs that outcompete and predate upon threatened and endangered native species, such as Southern California Steelhead, arroyo toad, and southwestern pond turtle. This is a HUGE win for the San Mateo Creek Watershed - one of the last undammed watersheds in Southern California - and a fantastic opportunity for restoration. Geosyntec Consultants supported California Trout in this endeavor by preparing the Land Management Plan and Long-Term Monitoring Plan Components of the WMP, and I am very proud to have managed this project on our end. It has been extremely rewarding to be a part of this initiative, and I'm looking forward to the next steps as we work towards reestablishment of steelhead and other critical species in San Mateo Creek!
