This year’s Construction Industries of Massachusetts - Labor RelationsDivision (CIM - LRD) Design/Construction Student Competition was held at Tufts University on Saturday April 12, 2025. John Roma organized the event for the third year and created a scenario where the teams had to preliminarily design/estimate and bid on a fictitious Blue Line Station at Hynes Convention center. There were 7 schools involved in the competition. GTR’s Les Chernauskas served as a mentor to the UMass Lowell Student Team, which was guided by UML Professor Raj Gondle. The event fosters collaboration between the students and the Heavy Civil Construction Industry, where they gain valuable real world experience on what it is like to bid on a project in the Boston Area. Each team and student are awarded a generous scholarship from CIM - LRD for participating and preparing the proposal/bid. GTR is proud to have provided input and guidance to the UML team for this worthwhile event! GTR - Geosciences Testing and Research, Inc. 关于我们
Geosciences Testing and Research, Inc. (GTR) was founded in 1995 as a geotechnical engineering and construction consulting firm. Together with our New York company, GTR Engineering of New York, we effectively serve our clients throughout the Northeast. We have also completed projects throughout the US, including Hawaii, as well as internationally in Jamaica, Africa, Europe and the Middle East. GTR provides foundation engineering and geotechnical consulting services and specializes in design, testing, instrumentation, and research of deep foundations. Our services have been utilized during the design, construction, and post construction phases of geotechnical projects for both public and private agencies. GTR is currently involved in or has recently completed some of the largest federally supported public work projects in the US. The majority of our work comes from long-term relationships we have established with our clients. GTR and FES have developed a group of niche geotechnical engineering services and capabilities that are highly sought after by our clients. Our consistent ability to provide timely service and cost efficient value engineering solutions combined with our understanding of our client’s needs are what sets GTR apart from other engineering firms.

GTR’s Les Chernauskas, Jonathan Ernst and Bill Oder recently presented at DFI’s annual conference in Denver. These presentations showcased GTR’s wide range of services and capabilities. Bill Oder and Les Chernauskas presented on an extensive research project that evaluated Thermal Integrity Profiling (TIP) on several drilled shafts installed by HUB Foundation at their yard in Chelmsford, MA. The research culminated in proposing a new temperature based criteria for TIP, which will hopefully help the industry, particularly in situations where concrete volume is not accurately known or logged. Jonathan Ernst presented on the “Replacement of MNRR Bridge over Atlantic Street” Project in Stamford CT involving an earth support system that effectively tunneled beneath five (5) Metro North Railroad tracks at each proposed bridge abutment location and supported a “Jump Span Bridge” that allowed for rail traffic to overhead. The SOE served the dual purpose of retaining lateral earth and surcharge pressures while also providing vertical bridge support during construction while trains actively travelled above during the installation of the propose micropile abutment foundations. GTR - Geosciences Testing and Research, Inc. is thrilled to have supported another successful Moles Student Day! This year's event, hosted at Barletta Heavy Division, Inc. I90-I495 project, marked its second occurrence at this impressive site. Our team members Les Chernauskas, John E. Regan, P.E., Jonathan L. Ernst, P.E., and Daniel Cheney volunteered their expertise, presenting on various aspects of the project and guiding students through different stations. The turnout was remarkable, with over 200 students and faculty from more than 20 schools in attendance. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Barletta Heavy Division, Inc. O&G Industries, Inc. AETNA BRIDGE COMPANY for their generous hospitality in hosting the event, and to The Moles for their impeccable organization. At GTR, we're committed to fostering the next generation of engineering talent and are proud to play a part in these valuable educational experiences. #GTREngineering #MolesStudentDay #EngineeringEducation
Barletta - in collaboration with MassDOT and our 495/90 Joint Venture partners VHB, O&G Industries, Inc. and Aetna Bridge Company – was proud to again host The Moles Inc. Students Day. Over 200 students and faculty from the US Coast Guard Academy and 15 local colleges and universities were able to see first-hand the complex and intricate active construction work at the 495/90 Interchange Project. Students received pre-tour presentations from MassDOT Administrator Jonathan Gulliver, Moles President John McNamara (of Massachusetts firm AA Will Corp.), Moles Education Committee Chair Terry Flynn, Vin Barletta, and Donald Cooke of VHB. After the opening presentations, attendees boarded buses and traveled to eight (8) different stations throughout the active work zone including a stop for a tour of MassDOT's Materials & Research Lab. Students were escorted to each site with guides from Barletta, VHB, MassDOT and Moles member volunteers who were all eager to share their valuable knowledge and enthusiasm for the project and the industry. The day concluded with boxed lunches and an opportunity for students to discuss career and internship opportunities with the Moles member firms on hand. It was a great networking opportunity for students and the firms. We thank everyone involved in making the day such a success, and we especially thank the students and schools for attending.
