Architecture | Instilling a lifelong curiosity for the social & cultural meaning of the built environment

关于我们

Across the spectrum of our undergraduate, professional, and doctoral programs, the School of Architecture brings design and research into a creative tension where innovation thrives. Thinking, designing, and making are co-extensive activities spanning across our classrooms, studios and labs. Our faculty and students engage in the kinds of cutting-edge interdisciplinary research, the new technologies and techniques that are redefining the field of architecture. Building on our long legacy of being at the forefront of merging design and technology we are uniquely positioned to prepare students to be the future leaders of these changes. Ingeborg Rocker, PhD. William H. Harrison Chair and Professor Georgia Institute of Technology School of Architecture

Check this out! Georgia Tech School of Architecture's Professor Emeritus George Johnston asks "Who is the Architect?" in Harvard Design Magazine, Issue 52: Instruments of Service. According to George, “The architect” is neither a fixed entity nor limited to any singular archetypal figure but rather is a collective body of knowledge and individual problem-solving ingenuity; a form of mediating agency, still subject to ongoing reinvention within changing times and cultural constraints." Read George's article (and others) as he addresses the state of architectural practice today. https://lnkd.in/evbKAhBV

Join us this Thursday to hear from Stephen Cassell FAIA, Principal of Architecture Research Office. The Lecture will be at 12:30 pm | Reinsch - Pierce Family Auditorium and AIA CES learning credit will be offered! Architecture. Research. Office. In conjunction with the Fall 2024 publication of the monograph Architecture. Research.?Office., Principal Stephen Cassell will present the design of the practice as a project in itself. “Architecture” is the firm’s ultimate objective, which for ARO means creating beautifully crafted work that benefits people; “research” grounds its methodology and informs its approach; and “office” reflects the idea that creating architecture in support of people starts with the community and culture of the firm itself. Key projects completed over the past three decades, representing the firm’s diverse body of work, will be the means to describe the principles that guide ARO’s work, the firm’s methodology and its culture.

This initial symposium focuses on a significant new development in Atlanta’s Fourth Ward by New City Properties, and will investigate the ambitions of the developer within the site and context, the ideas behind the selection of the building design teams, and providing a forum for the developer, planner, architects, landscape architect, engineers and contractor to discuss their work in depth – to create a discourse around the ideas and issues that are continuing to build a significant new urban center in Atlanta.
