Just wrapped up my first Capture The Flag (CTF) competition at the Southeastern Cyber Cup hosted by Georgia Tech Office of Information Technology & Deloitte. My team (ByteBack) and I were able to finish in the top 5 after competing in a variety of challenges in topics such as penetration testing, web exploitation, and cryptography. Some of the tools we utilized were Kali Linux, Google Cloud Platform, Terraform, SQLmap, and Burp Suite. I want to give a big shoutout to my teammates Preston Cotton & Erin Zheng for making this possible. Thank you both for staying late at the library with me trying to capture CTF flags with the limited time we had.

The 2024 Southeastern Cyber Cup competition kicks off in TWO weeks! Hosted by OIT’s Cyber Security, the Southeastern Cyber Cup is a national-level, higher education hackathon with the purpose of generating cybersecurity awareness. The Office of Information Technology is happy to announce that Georgia Tech has selected Leo Howell as its new vice president for Information Technology and chief information officer. Metro area high school students participated in our Cyber Security Camp this past week which concluded with learning activities with the FBI and a tour of the Georgia Tech Police Department on Friday. The weeklong program is in partnership with the FBI (Atlanta), InfraGard National Members Alliance, Georgia Tech's Center for Education Integrating Science, Mathematics, and Computing (CEISMC), and Georgia Tech Office of Information Technology's Cyber Security department.

I am happy to share that I won a student employee leadership award from the Georgia Tech Office of Information Technology! I want thank my supervisor, Daniel Zealy, and Casey Hayes for nominating me. This recognition means a lot, and I am grateful for the support and acknowledgment! For the past two semesters, I have had the honor to work with the Robotic Process Automation (RPA) team at the OIT, where I developed a platform that streamlines the automation request submission process for both the RPA team and Georgia Tech's administrative teams. Initially, requests were managed through a single Microsoft List. This approach risked accidental modifications or deletions of submissions as users had access to everyone else's submissions. To address this, our team decided to split the process into frontend and backend components. This separation ensured a smoother user experience while enhancing security. (would love to share a snippet of the app, but it's in its pre-release stage!) Georgia Tech's administrative teams can now submit and manage their requests through the user-friendly frontend while the RPA team securely manages submissions on the backend. Beginning next semester, I will be taking on the role of a Robotic Process Automation Developer Intern, where I'll learn and explore methods to automate business processes. Can't wait for Fall 2024!

Georgia Tech's Office of Information Technology is proud to highlight exceptional contributions to the field of extended reality (XR) and its integration into academic settings. Didier Contis, executive director of Academic Technology, Innovation & Research Computing, recently collaborated with peers across the nation to co-author a special Educause report, titled “Navigating the XR Educational Landscape: Privacy, Safety, and Ethical Guidelines,” which discusses XR integration and adoption within higher education and highlights risk mitigation recommendations for institutions. His guidance has been instrumental in shaping the future of XR across universities. This has also helped advance efforts at Georgia Tech through the creation of an XR management team, faculty development programs, and the creation of XR adoption within course curriculum - paving the way for a meta-university experience.
