He leads a cross-functional team developing Ivy, an AI-driven interactive coach designed to enhance procedural skill learning in online education. Rahul has conducted extensive research on bias in AI systems and has worked on AI fairness and misinformation detection. Pratyusha Maiti and Ashok Goel studied the impact of Jill Watson on student questioning behaviors in the classroom. Analyzing over 5,500 learner-generated questions across three semesters and two educational settings, researchers applied Bloom’s Taxonomy and machine learning models to assess question complexity. Findings indicate a significant prevalence of higher-order questioning, with a measurable increase over time as students engaged. School of CSE Ph.D. student Phillip Si and Assistant Professor Peng Chen developed Latent-EnSF, a technique that improves how machine learning models assimilate data to make predictions! In experiments of medium-range weather forecasting and flood wave prediction tasks,?Latent-EnSF demonstrated higher accuracy, faster convergence, and greater efficiency than existing methods for sparse data assimilation. These promising results could help communities prepare for extreme weather and coastal flooding. The approach could also be applied to other models that predict how natural systems impact society.
