Empowering Georgians to choose end of life options which reflect their values and wishes.
关于我们
Georgians for End of Life Options (GAELO) is a newly formed, not for profit, state-wide organization created to advocate for laws and policies which improve and expand options for end of life decision making and care, and help Georgians plan for a good quality of life and a peaceful death. Our Values: We believe that the ability to exercise autonomy and self-determination in matters related to end of life and death is a human right. The decision to exercise that right is an intensely personal choice made with respect for the sacredness of life, and with compassion for all. Our Mission: We seek to support and improve end of life and advance care planning in Georgia by advocating for laws and policies which improve and expand options for end of life decision making. Our goal is to ensure that every Georgian can define for themselves what quality of life they may have at the end of their lives, and receive the care that provides that quality and reflects their individual values and wishes. Our Vision: We aim to: offer state-wide support for Georgians who are facing end of life, or who wish to plan ahead; support legislation that would improve end of life care and expand options for end of life decision-making; and forge partnerships with other initiatives and collaborations in Georgia that are working to improve and expand healthcare options for Georgians. Our Organization: We organized in May, 2021, under Death With Dignity’s 501(c)(3) umbrella and received a Dignity50 opportunity grant to establish our organization and build out our web presence and social media platforms. Currently we are formed with an Interim Executive Director, a Steering Committee, and an Advisory Board, (both formal and informal advisors). Our main priority for 2022 is to recruit members to serve on our Board of Directors. Additionally, we will be recruiting a permanent Executive Director and expanding our Steering committee and Advisory Board. All members serve on a volunteer basis.

GAELO is always in support of informed decision making regarding end-of-life medical decisions. Published by the Journal of Emergency Medical Services the article "People Should Be Allowed to Make Life-Shortening Choices for Quality-of-Life Reasons" discusses how individuals should be allowed to make informed decisions to reject care to improve quality of life toward the end.? https://lnkd.in/gdXH2hms

Here at GAELO we fully believe in the power of communication. The Kilgore News Herald article by Foundation Partners Group states that “Nearly 90% of people know discussing end of life is important, but more than half haven’t started the conversation”. This article showcases the importance of talking about death, and especially our own. End-of-Life conversations need to be a part of everyone's lives. Read the article below! https://lnkd.in/dES6Qu3k
