Representing Georgia's Electric Cooperatives

关于我们

Georgia Electric Membership Corp. is the statewide trade association for Georgia's electric membership cooperatives (EMCs), providing leadership and unity through advocacy, education and communications. The state of Georgia is home to 41 electric cooperatives. Together with their statewide trade association and generation and transmission partners, EMCs work continuously to provide members with safe, reliable and affordable electricity. Collectively, Georgia's customer-owned EMCs provide electricity and related services to 4.4 million people, nearly half of Georgia's population, across 73 percent of the state's land area. Our association enables Georgia’s EMCs to pool their resources to gain strength and efficiency on common issues through: - Legislative representation at the state and national levels - Community and economic development - Volunteerism and charitable giving - Youth and education programs - Training, education and safety programs - Consumer advocacy - Environmental stewardship - Media relations and communications/member services support - Monthly publication of Georgia Magazine for EMC consumers

Are you CPR certified? Our training and safety instructors travel to EMCs around the state to teach CPR to EMC employees. This hands-on practice gives them the confidence they need to properly administer CPR in an emergency situation.

Our Communications and Member Services team recently gathered for a team-building service project to paint murals that will be hung on the walls of two medical facilities in Georgia. We are hopeful they will bring as much color and cheer to the facilities’ patients, families and employees as it did to our team. We appreciate the opportunity from the Foundation for Hospital Art, a charity organization based right here in Georgia! Throughout the years, they have worked with 1,000,000 volunteers and patients to create over 53,000 paintings for over 8,500 hospitals in 195 countries.

Today we had the honor of celebrating the 85th Anniversary of Georgia EMC at the Georgia State Capitol surrounded by friends and partners from EMCs across the state. We are incredibly grateful to serve Georgia’s 41 EMCs and thankful for the dedicated legislators who continually prioritize and support the mission of EMCs. Here's to many more years of collaboration and service!

Georgia retail electricity prices continue to remain competitive in the U.S., ranking 11th?lowest out of all 50 states. Chris Stephens of?Coweta-Fayette EMC?shared why this is at the Georgia State Capitol today as lawmakers begin taking a look at energy and water use in the state of Georgia to plan for future growth. Stephens gave much of the credit for Georgia’s low electric rates to the Territorial Electric Service Act and shared how Georgia’s 41 EMCs are poised for growth.? ? “Here in Georgia, we are extremely fortunate to live in a growing and dynamic state where its citizens have abundant economic opportunities,” said Stephens. “This is due, in part, to our effective and efficient electric market.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/gkAsKbDF

As part of their training to become electric linemen, apprentices (future linemen!) are required to complete 40 hours of field exercises during their Exercise 2 class. Georgia EMC’s Training & Safety Team recently administered one of these field exercises at Hart EMC in Hartwell, Georgia. The apprentices removed the wire, transformers and other equipment from the power poles in Hart EMC’s practice yard, leaving only the power poles standing. From there, apprentices had a blank canvas to practice rebuilding the distribution lines. This field exercise simulates what distribution lines might look like in a major outage situation and gives the apprentices a chance to practice their climbing and building skills. Georgia EMC’s Training & Safety Team executes and trains apprentices at these types of field exercises at EMCs across the state using the Northwest Linemen College’s curriculum.
