From the Workplace to the Courtroom: Professional Skills in CASA Advocacy – Applying professional skills (communication, problem-solving, critical thinking) to CASA advocacy and how volunteering as a CASA can enhance leadership and career growth.

We are so happy to share our newest addition to the Georgia CASA team. Our new Network Services Coordinator, Miriam Wade, joined us earlier this month, and we are so happy to have her! ?? Say hi to Miriam in the comments and read her bio below! Coming on staff in March of 2025, Miriam was previously an Advocacy Coordinator with Atlanta CASA, Inc. Miriam has extensive experience in Child Welfare and advocacy across several states, with a passion for public service and social justice. Miriam is currently an active member of the Pennsylvania State Alumni Association (WeARE!) and the CASA Young Professionals Network. Outside of work, Miriam is a notary public, student of sign-language, cat mom, and freelance transcriptionist. She also enjoys staying active, crafting, playing videogames, and exploring Atlanta through food and music.

Today marks 25 years since Joyce Jones joined the Georgia CASA team. Here are a few words from our Data Manager, Shauna McCullough-Hightower, about the energy Mrs. Joyce brings to the CASA Network. "Mrs. Joyce greeted me on my first day at Georgia CASA nearly three years ago with such warmth and kindness that she made me feel as if I was a part of the team from day one. Her warm demeanor and deep institutional knowledge have been a guiding light, not just for me but for everyone who has had the privilege of working alongside her. Over the years, she has been a steadfast presence, offering wisdom, support, and genuine care that extends beyond the workplace. Her dedication to Georgia CASA and the broader CASA network is truly inspiring, and her impact is immeasurable. Joyce's kindness, leadership, and unwavering commitment make a difference every day, and we celebrate her with gratitude and admiration!" "I’ve always loved International Women’s Day because it felt like a celebration of the most important people in my life – the hands that shaped and molded me into the person I am today." As an organization dedicated to supporting children and families in crisis, we recognize that holidays and seasonal events can be a delicate and nuanced time for many. One of our board members, Danielle Wilkes, shares a deeper look into what International Women's Day, coming up this Saturday, means to her for this series entitled Purposeful Perspectives.

We may not have had hundreds of CASA volunteers at the gold dome this year, but we did have a chance to meet our new legislators and thank those who have supported CASA programs in Georgia. We were also mentioned in morning orders on the House and Senate floors and snagged a few photos throughout the morning. Every day is child advocacy day to us, and we are grateful for the chance to share our work with those setting priorities for our state.
