Last week, the Georgia Tech SimTigrate Design Lab and Institute for People and Technology(IPaT) had the pleasure of hosting the SimLEARN VHA team, including representatives from the SimLEARN VHA Executive Director's Office, the Office of Construction and Facilities Management, the Veterans Experience Office, and Guidehouse. We had great discussions on how to integrate physical and virtual simulations and other advanced research tools to drive innovations in healthcare design. We look forward to continuing exploring ways to collaborate with the SimLEARN VHA, CFM, and the Veterans Experience Office to support better and safer healthcare design to serve both our nation’s Veterans and the general public! We were excited to host a group of faculty and administrators from Universidad del Desarrollo (UDD) from Chile at our SimTigrate Design Lab last week. Thoroughly enjoyed the conversation about innovations in healthcare design and research. Thanks for the connection through the GT Enterprise Innocation Institute’s Global Team, lauren Lange, Xingying Lin,and our Dean Ellen Bassett. Congratulations to our executive director, Dr. Hui Cai for her recent achievement! Dr. Hui Cai and Dr. Kent Spreckelmeyer’s work titled "The Continuous Learning Cycle: A Multi-phase Post-occupancy Evaluation (POE) of Decentralized Nursing Unit Design" has been awarded the Wilbur H (Tib) Tusler, Jr. Health Design Research Prize for 2024?in the Original Research category. The HCD Healthcare Design Expo & Conference last week was a fantastic experience! It was great to present our collaborative research with Francis Fullam and Marvina Williams on behalf of our team ( Perkins&Will, Rush University Medical Center, Enviah, and Georgia Tech SimTigrate Design Lab, we received great feedback! It was also exciting to listen to several very inspiring presentations, especially the use of innovative tools such as simulations, mockups, AI and Machine Learning in healthcare design and research! More importantly, I am so happy to get to hang out with my colleagues, current and former students,, and witness their success. So proud of them! Associate Director, Jennifer DuBose, joined the "Future Research, What's Next" panel at the Wearable Innovations for Health Equity workshop on Tuesday to discuss the future of wearable technology. She shared her insights regarding the importance of making wearables appropriate for those with cognitive impairment and being thoughtful about how the data will be used.?
