The Georgia Planning Association (GPA) is an official Chapter of the American Planning Association (APA). GPA is a 1,000-plus member organization of professional planners and planning officials who serve Georgia’s communities in many ways, at all levels of government, the private sector and not-for-profit organizations. The Georgia Chapter of the American Planning Association is registered with the Georgia Secretary of State as a Domestic Non-Profit organization. GPA has been a registered non-profit since October 11, 1968. In 1982, the original GPA merged with the Georgia Chapter of the American Planning Association into a stronger, functional entity, the new Georgia Planning Association. GPA has been an advocate for good planning and a respected source of training and information over the years. Through conferences, Planners Lunch events, partnerships with other organizations for special events, the Community Planning Institute (CPI) and other activities, GPA has provided important resources to communities. In the coming decade, GPA will continue to mature and provide an organization where planners can share their expertise and ideas with policymakers and the general public for the benefit of Georgia and its citizens.

Dozens of professionals across Georgia have benefited from GPA’s Mentor Program. Elena Oertel, AICP, from Kimley-Horn says, “Participating in the mentorship program was an incredible experience that broadened my understanding of the diverse planning landscape in Georgia. It connected me with planners from various backgrounds, each offering unique perspective and highlighting different paths and approaches to the field. Collaborating with peers and mentors from both the public and private sectors helped me refine my career goals and explore new avenues in planning. We will be making a decision on the Fall Conference in the next couple of days and will send an email to our membership at that time.
