Congratulations to Mary Freeman, who received the first-ever Lifetime Achievement Award from the Southeastern Fishes Council!
Freeman's expertise includes many different facets important to the conservation of freshwater biota, including basic biodiversity science, effects of river and water resource management on stream communities, instream flow influences on aquatic biota dynamics, and consequences of community change on stream ecosystem function. Her work fills a critical knowledge gap between theory and practice, notes Anna George, SFC chair-elect.
One nominator wrote "She truly cares about the people she works with, and she consistently exhibits grace and humility in every situation she encounters. Without question, it is these qualities that amplify her ability to also bring out the absolute best in every person she works with."
Ecology students and RBC affiliates are lucky to be among the dozens that she advised, co-advised or worked with.
Thanks, Dr. Freeman, for sharing your expertise, your mentorship and your time. And congratulations on the well-deserved recognition!
