关于我们
WHO WE ARE Georgia Health Initiative is an independent non-profit organization working towards a Georgia in which all people have the opportunity to attain their fullest potential for health. WHAT WE DO As a respected organization with a 20+-year history of community partnerships, we have several tools we use to improve the health of Georgians, including grantmaking, advocacy, convening, elevating voices, and telling stories. We work to change systems and advance bold ideas to improve the health of Georgians across the state. We create opportunities for organizations and communities to collaborate and discover new ways to advance equity, and we join forces with them to co-create solutions. HOW WE DO IT * Relationships are at the heart of our work. We are present and collaborative, inviting the input and insights of our partners to constantly review and improve our work. * We create environments that enable and encourage diverse groups of people to work together over time so that the best ideas and approaches can emerge. * We build bridges and create coalitions across sectors, communities, and regions. * We partner with nonprofit organizations, healthcare providers, the philanthropic sector, policymakers, and the business community to identify and advance common strategies for achieving equitable health outcomes. * We serve as an intermediary and take a systems approach to solving complex social challenges. * We use our voice, our influence, and our platform to amplify and elevate the people and organizations doing health equity work in our state. * We assemble and share knowledge. We support and augment the work of our partners as they push toward the common goal of health equity OUR MISSION To inspire and promote collective action that advances health equity for all Georgians.

Today I had the pleasure of serving on a panel alongside Bill Finerfrock and Dr. Frazier Keitt at the Movement is Life Health Equity Summit. Together we explored the unique health equity experiences of individuals living in rural and urban communities and more importantly focused on the possibilities abound in our future in ensuring all individuals living in Georgia achieve their highest potential for health. Many thanks to the dynamic Dr. Valerie Montgomery Rice for setting the stage for a powerful discussion during the conference and specifically naming the direct correlation between income and health. I walked away energized, committed and hopeful for what we all can do for our fellow community members. #healthequity #wellness #ittakesavillage #collectiveaction #movementislife

Three days of true Connection, Community, & Courage in keeping with the theme at this year’s Philanthropy Southeast Annual Meeting. So many building blocks gained to help us live into the definition of “philanthropy” as “love of humankind.” ?? #TeamPossible #PSE2024!

Key takeaways from the GA Hunger & Health summit hosted by CDC Foundation include: *centering neighbors in our collective work *thinking more from the perspective of “critical connections” vs. “critical mass” (as taught by Grace Lee Boggs) *applying principles of asset-based framing shared during a thought-provoking workshop facilitated by Trabian Shorters Two days well spent learning, cultivating relationships, and supporting one another in applying new ways of thinking and partnering and framing! #TeamPossible #AssetFraming

As a mom of three young men aka my broke besties... having the opportunity to serve families in pursuit of birth equity is incredibly fulfilling, impactful and dare I say THE MOST JOYFUL JOURNEY OF MY LIFE. So, when I had the opportunity to come to our Nation's capital to ideate and learn alongside change makers across the country, I jumped at the opportunity. I learned sooooooo much... during the event we explored the possibilities of public private partnerships through examples spearheaded in New Jersey (s/o to Lisa Asare and NJ First Lady Mrs. Tammy Murphy), North Carolina (S/o to Elizabeth H. Star) and Illinois (s/o to Sona Smith)... We also learned from peers about how to develop powerful mission driven funder collaboratives and I am thankful for the leaders in Rhode Island, Maryland, Washington and New Jersey for sharing their journey's (S/o to Zachary Nieder and the rest of the panelist). I am inspired, reaffirmed and excited to continue to pursue #birthequity and #maternalhealthequity in Georgia. #strongertogether #ittakesavillage #birthequity #maternalhealthvitality #publichealth #philanthropy #publicprivatepartnership #equity Many thanks to the Birth Equity Funders State Exchange planning committee California Health Care Foundation, Irving Harris Foundation, Pritzker Family Foundations (Children's Initiative), Community Health Acceleration Partnership (CHAP) Cambia Health Foundation, Perigee Fund, The Commonwealth Fund, Merck for Mothers, W.K. Kellogg Foundation, The David and Lucile Packard Foundation and FORE.
