Scott Votaw, Assistant Vice Chancellor of the University System of Georgia’s Georgia Film Academy, was recently appointed by Gov. Brian Kemp to serve on the Georgia Film, Music and Digital Entertainment Advisory Council. We can’t wait to see how he uses this new position to support Georgia’s growing entertainment industry and advocate for workforce development on behalf of GFA. Join us in congratulating Scott!

关于我们
The Georgia Film Academy is a collaboration of the University System of Georgia and the Technical College System of Georgia created by state leadership to meet education and workforce needs for high demand careers in Georgia’s film and creative industries. GFA classes are offered for college credit through more than 20 University System of Georgia and Technical College System of Georgia partner institutions. Classes may also be taken through continuing education programs at several partner institutions. The GFA higher education program offers rigorous professional training, and may lead to union-covered film and television production craft internships and placement in creative industry apprenticeships and jobs. The GFA provides professional training in the form of Post Production education and AVID editing certification. The GFA also offers high school teacher training in production, content creation, and post production, in partnership with the GaDOE. These provide professional film and television experiences and training, as well as curriculum and resources for teachers across the state.

A big heartfelt thank you to Cha Blevins of the kalicollection costume house for giving our GFA students a great tour of their amazing facility. Experts in everything costume, they dazzled us with their collections and engaged the students with a fascinating overview of the Costume department and how it all works in film and TV. The students loved it!

Whether advocating for workforce development or building relationships with partner institutions and local leaders, GFA is committed to bridging the training gap in the film industry. As the 81st Annual Venice Film Festival is in full swing, we are looking back at C Scott Votaw’s presentation at last year’s festival. “The effectiveness of our model was evident at the 80th Annual Venice International Film Festival, where I was asked to showcase Georgia's rise in the film industry and GFA's impact. Educators and industry experts globally are trying to replicate GFA's internationally recognized program.” – C Scott Votaw

? You can live in GA and apply. Most slots go to LA residents but 10% are set aside for non-LA folks. Worth a shot if this is your area of passion and interest!!!Applications open August 1.? ? “TV writers and producers Tanya Saracho (Vida), Mike Royce (One Day at a Time), and Liz Hsiao Lan Alper (Day of the Dead) have partnered with the Writers Guild Foundation to launch the?Writers’ Access Support Staff Training Program, a first-of-its-kind initiative to support the full inclusion and employment of underrepresented groups in the television industry. The program’s mission is to provide writers who are BIPOC, LGBTQ+, disabled writers, and writers over the age of 50, with the tools and education to become a writers’ assistant and script coordinator, resulting in meaningful employment opportunities. These positions have historically been an invaluable way to learn the writing process first-hand, with the ultimate goal of getting a writing job.? Graduates of the program will be included in an ongoing list of trained writers’ assistants and script coordinators (WA/SCs) primarily from underrepresented groups, which will be made available to studios, networks and showrunners, in order to increase the pool of eligible hires. By offering this opportunity to writers who are typically excluded from the writers’ room, we hope to increase representation among television writers, and capture stories from all corners of the human experience. ? https://lnkd.in/eUgrx87e
