At Georgia Appleseed, we work to remove these barriers by advocating for school-based supports and education rights that help students experiencing homelessness stay in school and succeed. November is National Youth Homelessness Awareness Month Did you know that youth aging out of foster care are at a high risk of homelessness, with 1 in 5 facing housing instability within 18 months? Georgia Appleseed is proud to have helped pass the Safe at Home Act (HB404), which strengthens tenant protections, including for youth renting their first homes. The Act provides crucial safety measures, like requiring basic repairs in rental homes to keep them habitable and offering a buffer for late rent payments, giving transition-aged youth a better chance at housing stability. Learn more about how we are ensuring all young people in Georgia have a safe place to call home by visiting our website. #YouthHomelessnessAwareness #SafeAtHomeAct #GeorgiaAppleseed

November is National Youth Homelessness Awareness Month In Georgia, over 46,000 children and teens experience homelessness each year, many of whom also face barriers to education and mental health care. We advocate for policies that address the root causes of youth homelessness—especially for youth in foster care who face particularly high rates of housing instability. Through our work, we fight for housing solutions that provide security and opportunity to young people across the state. Every child deserves a safe place to call home. #YouthHomelessnessAwareness #GeorgiaAppleseed #YouthHousingJustice

It is exciting to see what other states are doing to promote behavioral health in schools. There are many ways to make behavioral health supports as common as the school lunch in Georgia. Our School-Based Behavioral Health Collaborative, with partners The Carter Center, Voices for Georgia's Children, and Resilient Georgia, promote school-community partnerships, Georgia Apex-funded programs, screening and referring services, as well as in house programs like the ones starting in Tennessee. Learn more about our work at https://lnkd.in/g9kdGR9Q.

Did you know? Students facing long-term suspension (more than 10 days) are entitled to a school tribunal hearing. For students with disabilities, specific protections are in place, such as the requirement to assess whether the alleged behavior is substantially related to the student’s disability. Learn more about how the process works, including your rights as parents and guardians, and the protections available for students with disabilities, and about the assistance we offer through our FAIR program. #SchoolJustice #FAIR #EducationRights #GeorgiaAppleseed
