On behalf of the School of Nursing, I share our deepest gratitude for #PresidentDeGioia’s leadership and lifetime of service to Georgetown University. Over his tenure, Jack oversaw the launch of the new School of Nursing in 2022, continuing a 120-year tradition at Georgetown of educating nurses, and reflecting a renewed commitment to the largest licensed healthcare profession. Jack’s remarkable leadership made Georgetown a better place and we are grateful that he will remain as a member of our community as President Emeritus and as a member of our faculty. ?? With gratitude, Roberta Waite, EdD, PMHCNS, ANEF, FADLN, FAAN Dean, School of Nursing

This fall, we welcomed our first cohort of Conway Scholars, thanks to a transformative $1M commitment from the Bedford Falls Foundation. This historic gift—the largest single donation to undergraduate scholarships in the school’s history—provides critical loan relief for BSN students, enabling them to graduate with little or no student loan debt. By removing financial barriers, the Conway Scholarship allows students to focus on their studies, pursue their nursing passions, and contribute to addressing the national nursing shortage. https://lnkd.in/e9bYGvi3

On this #VeteransDay, we highlight Jaclyn Sison (G’25), a retired Army captain and family nurse practitioner (FNP) student at Georgetown, whose journey reflects the powerful connections and impact of military service. From caring for patients across Germany, South Korea, and Texas to reuniting with a faculty mentor who remembered her from high school. Today, she serves as a population health nurse at Madigan Army Medical Center, working with families of active-duty and retired military members — a testament to her commitment to service both in and out of uniform. Thank you, Jaclyn, and all our veterans, for your dedication and service. https://lnkd.in/eHjCXcfH

Sydney Blackston (N’25), a senior BSN student, recently presented her research at the Global Social Justice Summer Research Symposium. Her work, focused on the devastating impacts of the 2023 British Columbia wildfires, delves into the effects on Indigenous communities and the environment. Supported by the 2023 Maeve McKean Global Health Award, Sydney interviewed Indigenous knowledge keepers and elders in Kelowna, BC, to better understand the often-overlooked impacts of wildfires on wildlife, air quality, and vulnerable populations. We are so proud to see Sydney contributing to the global conversation on climate change and social justice! https://lnkd.in/e9FRpUPG
