Molly McGrath, alumni of the MS in Addiction Policy and Practice program, published a compelling piece on the important role Medicaid coverage plays in reducing overdose deaths and makes a case for dire consequences should Congress make deep cuts to the program. Have a read ??

Shelly Weizman, JD is just one of our many incredible professors in the Georgetown University Addiction Policy & Practice Program. Applications are open until April 1 for the class of 2026! Apply here https://lnkd.in/e92Agriy
Associate Director and Adjunct Professor, Center on Addiction and Public Policy, O’Neill Institute at Georgetown Law
Incredibly grateful to two powerhouse guest lecturers, Laura Van Tosh and Jennifer Mathis , for joining us today in our “Addiction and Mental Health Law and Policy” course in the Georgetown University Addiction Policy & Practice Program! Our students heard about the evolution of the peer advocacy movement, how litigation can shape a generation of reform, the humility of knowing what you don’t know, the transformative experience of turning lived experience into activism, and the power of mentorship - both in having strong mentors and in paving the way for more seats at the table and for a new generation. Powerful parting words from our speakers: Better to be bold and do what’s right than to be overly cautious. Thank you again for joining us, inspiring us, and for all the work you do! The link below, sent to me by Laura, is a recording of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg reading the decision in the seminal Supreme Court case of Olmstead v LC, which set the stage for a 25 years of reform in the American mental health system. Enjoy!

Stay informed on current addiction and drug policy news with Program Director Regina LaBelle’s new Substack. Check it out below: #news #AddictionPolicy #DrugPolicy #Tariffs
I've started a substack to discuss various aspects of addiction and drug policy on what I hope is a weekly basis. Each week I will feature a high point and post a behind the noise feature. In today's substack the high point was last week's congressional briefing on Capitol Hill. In the behind the noise feature I discuss Canada, tariffs, and fentanyl trafficking. You can sign up for the substack here: https://lnkd.in/eFD85-FS

In the wake of loss, families across the nation have moved from grief to action, using their powerful stories and compassion to enact change. Join us for a conversation with family members who have been affected by overdose and substance use disorder on Thursday, March 20th, at 2 PM in Copley Hall's Formal Lounge. Use this link in our bio to join us for this important conversation, which will be followed by a reception: https://lnkd.in/eE2taqFu Panel members include Ed Ternan, Gina Malagold, Ph.D. (MS '22), and Tom Farley (B ‘85). Ed Ternan co-founded Song for Charlie with his wife, Mary, after their son Charlie tragically lost his life due to a counterfeit prescription pill. Gina Malagold lost her brother Dylan to a counterfeit prescription pill in July 2020 and now works to prevent other families from experiencing the same pain. After losing his brother, comedian Chris Farley, to addiction, Tom Farley has devoted his life to prevention and recovery. #Recovery #AddictionPolicy #Georgetown #SongForCharlie

We look forward to welcoming you to The Hilltop Ruby Simpson !
I am so excited to announce that I will be continuing my education and earning my Master of Science through the Georgetown University Addiction Policy & Practice Program. This groundbreaking program takes an interdisciplinary approach to understanding addiction, bridging public health, policy, and advocacy to drive meaningful change. After working closely with communities impacted by substance use, I knew I wanted to further my education in a program that aligned with my passions and goals. Georgetown’s was the only program I applied to, and I couldn’t be more excited to have found my perfect fit! After four incredible (and challenging) years at Hopkins, I’ve decided to take a small break before diving back in and will be starting the program in July 2026. I can't wait to move to DC post-grad and begin this next chapter! I’m immensely grateful for the mentors, friends, family, and opportunities that have helped me get here.
