Additionally, they partnered with a mass timber vendor, ensuring the wood was responsibly sourced and contributed to a significant embodied carbon reduction. In the photos, you can see the interplay between steel and timber. This project is a true collaboration of strength and sustainability. While the mass timber brings warmth and eco-conscious design, the steel structure provides the critical support needed to span large areas with precision and stability. This National Welding Month, we’re highlighting the essential techniques we use daily at George’s Welding 🔥 What are Welding Joints? ⚡ Welding joints define how two or more pieces of metal are joined together, ensuring durability and performance. Here are the five primary types ✅Butt Joint – Two metal pieces are placed edge to edge and welded together. This is the most common joint for structural welding and pipelines. ✅T-Joint – One piece is welded perpendicular to another, forming a "T" shape. Ideal for frames, support structures, and reinforcement work. ✅Lap Joint – Two metal pieces overlap and are welded at the edges. Frequently used for sheet metal fabrication and automotive welding. ✅Corner Joint – Metals are welded at a 90-degree angle to form a corner, commonly used in box frames, doors, and enclosures. ✅Edge Joint – The edges of two metal pieces are aligned and welded together, often found in pressure vessels and sheet metal work. This month, we’re highlighting the welding techniques we use every day! ⚡ What is Stud Welding? 🔩 Stud welding is a fast and efficient process use to attach metal studs to steel surfaces without drilling or additional fasteners. This method is widely used in construction, bridges, and industrial fabrication for its strength and speed. ✅ High-strength bond – Creates a metallurgical fusion for a durable connection. ✅ Speed & efficiency – Completes in seconds, reducing labor time. ✅ No drilling required – Maintains material integrity and eliminates weak points. ⚡ How It Works: 🔹 A stud is placed against the base metal using a welding gun. 🔹 An electric arc melts the stud’s base and a small portion of the surface. 🔹 The stud is then pressed into the molten metal, creating a strong, one-step weld. What is MIG Welding? 🔥 MIG welding uses a continuous wire electrode that melts and fuses metal while a shielding gas protects the weld from contamination. This process is known for: ✅ High speed & efficiency – Ideal for production and structural work. ✅ Clean welds – Less slag and minimal spatter compared to stick welding. ✅ Versatility – Works on steel, aluminum, and stainless steel in various thicknesses. ⚡ How It Works: 🔹The welding torch feeds an electrode wire to the weld joint. 🔹An electric arc forms between the wire and the metal, creating intense heat to melt the materials together. 🔹A shielding gas (typically a mix of argon and CO₂) prevents oxidation and ensures a strong, clean weld.
