Understanding Flood Risks: How Businesses and Communities Can Prepare In the face of rising heavy rainfall and flash floods, understanding the types of floods that impact U.S. regions is more crucial than ever. According to NOAA, by 2050, damaging floods are expected to occur over ten times more frequently than they do today. This increased flood risk threatens not only coastal areas but communities and businesses nationwide. At Geodesign Barriers, we believe in empowering companies and communities to better prepare and protect themselves. From flash floods and river floods to urban and storm surge flooding, each type presents unique risks to infrastructure, safety, and the environment. Increased urbanization, changing climate patterns, and extreme weather events only underscore the need for effective flood prevention measures. From flood barriers to infrastructure improvements, investing in flood resilience isn’t just about protecting property—it’s about safeguarding people, livelihoods, and essential services. ?? The C184 Heavy Duty Flood Barriers are back in action at Ironbridge, as part of the Environment Agency's efficient flood response efforts. After several days of heavy rainfall, river levels along the River Severn have risen considerably, prompting the deployment of 250 meters of temporary barriers, each standing 1.8 meters tall. This well-rehearsed operation has been in place since 2007, when the barriers were first introduced. The situation remains fluid, with the river expected to peak between 4.7 and 5.0 meters by Saturday morning. Additional barriers are prepared to be deployed over the weekend if needed, as the risk of flooding to local properties, roads, and farmland continues to rise. We're proud to see our barriers in action, helping protect the community during such critical times. Stay safe, and follow local guidance on flood precautions. *Video courtesy of Env Agency Midlands. Ironbridge's Proactive Flood Defense: A Model of Resilience and Innovation As we stepped into 2024, the community of Ironbridge faced yet another challenge from Mother Nature. The River Severn, following its course, overflowed, putting the historic town and its UNESCO World Heritage site at risk of flooding. However, the relentless spirit of Ironbridge, backed by the Environment Agency's swift action, showcased once again the strength of community and innovation in the face of adversity. Under the leadership of Area Incident Manager Nick Green, a 450-meter Geodesign Flood Barrier was erected in a timely and well-coordinated effort. This wasn't the first time Ironbridge had to rely on such measures; the Geodesign Flood Barriers have proven their worth time and again, safeguarding the community's people, heritage, and future. This recent event not only highlights the effectiveness of the Geodesign Heavy Duty Flood Barriers but also serves as a testament to the importance of preparedness and technological advancement in flood defense. It underlines the critical role of teamwork, led by dedicated individuals like Nick Green, and the advanced planning and deployment strategies that ensure safety and continuity for vulnerable communities.
