Come to our next meetup! GeoDC is the DC area’s largest geospatial meetup group. And, in even more amazing news, we’re cohosting this event with the Society for Conservation GIS! RSVP:
This is a meetup group for those in the DC area who like maps, GIS, OpenStreetMap, cartography and anything in between. Started in July 2009, this group aims to keep the DC geo enthusiasts connected to each other for learning and socializing and probably some drinking.

It's...coming! Thanks to the dedication of a wonderful mixed team of USGS staff and contractors at USGS EROS in Sioux Falls, we are preparing to release the next generation of the National Land Cover Database (NLCD) early this fall! A teaser to a new deep learning based approach that provides now ANNUAL land cover, from 1985 to 2023, for the conterminous US. Very proud of the team!! Stay tuned!! https://lnkd.in/gswjdwvF

Just released a new version of #GeoBlaze that includes "automatic virtual resampling". Inspired by #GDAL's "virtual rasters", virtual resampling means calculating statistics "as if" the input raster was at a higher resolution (without actually resampling the raster). The "automatic" part means GeoBlaze will adjust the virtual pixel size in situations where an area of interest is much smaller than pixel size (e.g. coarse precipitation data, population data, and sea temp). Notebook with a visual explanation: https://lnkd.in/eK-T8zb2 Looking forward to feedback and learning about how others have approached this problem! P.S. I'll be presenting this and other #GeoBlaze updates at #FOSS4GNA (https://foss4gna.org/) #JavaScript #geospatial #gis #spatial

?? The 2024 AGS Fall Symposium returns to Columbia University on November 21 & 22, 2024 with?Geography 2050: Cooperation & Conflict in a Changing Climate. This year, we're exploring how geography and geospatial science are providing the tools for nations to work together to resolve conflicts and tackle the challenges presented by our warming planet. Hold the dates in your calendar now for another stimulating program with experts from government, industry, academia, and non-governmental organizations who are pushing the boundaries of GEO to create a more peaceful, harmonious world. ? Every year, our Lightning Talk presenters wow our attendees with visually-compelling, information-rich presentations about cutting-edge research to address?the problems we share across the world. If you've been using geography and geospatial tools to provide solutions and hope for a contentious world and can give a talk about it in five minutes or less, submit your presentation proposal to join us at?Geography 2050: Cooperation & Conflict in a Changing Climate. And if you can't join us in New York, there's an option to pre-record a talk for our website! More about lightning talks here: https://lnkd.in/eDs6SjWb ?? Is a relaxed, informal discussion of your research more your speed? For 2024, AGS is bringing back the poster exhibition, allowing presenters to give attendees an introduction to their work with a display poster and time to discuss their presentations during breaks and meals.
