As Chairman of the AGS, I am doing my mandatory season of giving emails this weekend. But, there is no way I will get to everyone in my network. Thank God there is LinkedIn! So, to all of you lovely people out there in the world, I would really appreciate it if you would consider donating (at any level!) to the AGS as part of the #SeasonOfGiving. Geography often seems like a hard thing to raise funds for. But remember, Geography Teachers are awesome and we support almost 5000 AP Human Geography teachers who taught some 265,000+ APHG students in 2024. Following the inspiration of two of our Geography Teacher Fellows Celeste Reynolds and Greg Hill, the American Geographical Society spent 2024 helping to launch their #TeenMaptivists idea into a national program (www.teenmaptivists.org) that will expand to 20 schools in the Spring, and to more and more schools every year, bringing #maptivism to local communities around the country. You can get involved creating your own local chapter! Thanks to the OpenStreetMap community (OpenStreetMap US) for making this possible! In this way and others, the AGS is committed to bringing #GeoSTEM Learning Pathways, that are tied to concrete career opportunities. The AGS will also be spending all of the next year highlighting the amazing #GeoAI work being done across government, industry, academia, and the non-profit sector on the lead-up to next year’s (Nov 20-21) symposium entitled Geography2050: The Future of GeoAI and our Planet, in partnership with the Columbia Climate School. There is so much damn geospatial data these days that making sense of the geography of our fast changing world require intelligent humans aided by #GeoAI. And, today’s APHG (and other) students will be tomorrow’s geospatial professionals, or geographically literate professionals, harnessing the power of #GeoAI in everyday life. We have a full year ahead of us, and we would love to have you involved. Save the date for Geography2050. Maybe have your organization sponsor! Become a member of the AGS. And, maybe, just maybe, find it in your heart to give (even just a little bit) as part of the #SeasonOfGiving! See below. We appreciate all you do for #Geography! #GIS #Geospatial #RemoteSensing #Geo
