We had an incredible time at the 36th Annual Southern California Association of NonProfit Housing (SCANPH) Conference, connecting with industry leaders and advocates! It was a pleasure to share our expertise in geotechnical engineering and discuss how our work contributes to the future of affordable housing in Southern California. The energy was high—perhaps thanks to a few rounds of espresso shots served in cookie cups! Engaging with so many passionate individuals reaffirms our commitment to creating lasting solutions for housing challenges. Together, we’re making strides toward building stronger, more sustainable communities. #SCANPH2024 #AffordableHousing #CaffeineAndCookies

Exciting changes are coming to the MTS 12th and Imperial Transit Center! As part of the Zero Emission Transit Enhancement Project, the initiative will improve the transit center with new shaded areas and upgraded multimodal access, making commuting more pleasant, while improved lighting and CCTV coverage increase security. The project will also reduce traffic congestion, making it easier for pedestrians, cyclists, and vehicles to navigate the center. These updates boost transit ridership, improve service in disadvantaged communities, and contribute to cleaner air by reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Geocon is proud to collaborate with Dokken Engineering by performing the geotechnical investigation. We are pleased to offer essential recommendations for grading, foundation, and pavement sections as part of a project dedicated to enhancing our community.

BEN|EN is excited to announce the City of Elk Grove won a Project Award from the ASCE - Sacramento Section for the Kammerer Road Reconstruction project under the Roadway & Highway category! This project is owned by the City of Elk Grove with Leo Rubio as the Project Manager and Carlton Allen, P.E. as Lead Project Engineer for civil engineering services. Thank you to our hardworking staff for bringing this project to our community! The Kammerer Road Reconstruction is a 2.3-mile project part of the Capital Southeast Connector project?- a 34-mile expressway spanning from Interstate 5, south of Elk Grove, to Highway 50 in El Dorado Hills. The project team included GEOCON, VE Solutions, Fehr & Peers, UNICO Engineering, Inc., Callander Associates - CALA, and West Yost. The team provided professional services?including preliminary engineering, environmental permit coordination, right-of-way coordination, traffic studies, drainage studies, utility relocations and final plans, specifications, and estimates. The first phase reconstructed the existing road to its ultimate horizontal and vertical alignments to accommodate future widening. It included roadway realignment and profile grade adjustments, one travel lane in each direction, shoulders, a median with turn lanes, paving, striping, signage, storm drainpipes, drainage inlets, drainage basin, ditch grading, abandonment of three agricultural water wells, and demolition of an existing AT&T building and cell tower. #ProjectAward #ASCE #ProjectoftheYear #transportation #civilengineering

The Hillcrest Road Widening and West Side Bridges projects will enhance traffic flow on Yerba Buena Island and connectivity from Treasure Island to the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge, with Geocon proudly contributing to the concurrent progress of both projects. Located on Yerba Buena Island, these vital developments will improve pedestrian and bike access while linking key transportation routes, including the recently completed Southgate Road Interchange on which Geocon also worked, providing greater regional access to Treasure Island and the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge West Span Skyway. Geocon conducted site investigations and identified lead as the primary contaminant of concern in near-surface soil. We are currently overseeing the safe removal of lead-impacted soil, including the use of X-ray fluorescence (XRF) devices for field screening during excavation, air monitoring during excavation, and real-time remote dust monitoring data alerts during soil disturbances. Geocon also performed hazardous materials surveys of the old bridges and retaining wall structures. When completed, a wider Hillcrest Road and the new West Side Bridges will create safer and more-efficient transportation routes, with improved access for vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists. By enhancing this key corridor, we are ensuring reliable and accessible roadways that support the growth and mobility of Yerba Buena Island and Treasure Island.

BEN|EN is excited to announce we have won a Project of the Year Award by the APWA Sacramento Chapter for the Mather Field Road Rehabilitation project under the Transportation category! This project is owned by City of Rancho Cordova. Our Project Manager Lizette Martinez, PE (Lizette Zavala) managed the design and other civil engineering services of this project. Here is a brief description of the project: BEN|EN provided engineering support services to City staff for the rehabilitation. The project rehabilitated the pavement on Mather Field Road—a four-lane roadway—from Folsom Boulevard to International Drive. The total length of the project was approximately one mile and included aerial imagery with Lidar survey,?topographic mapping, utility coordination, re-design of the existing median, landscape and irrigation design, pavement evaluation, and resurfacing recommendations. By using the point cloud generated by Lidar for survey, areas of distress on the pavement were identified by manipulating the colors of slopes in AutoCAD. Traffic signal design improvements were performed by our traffic division at six intersections, including replacement of the existing damaged detector loops with a video/radar detection system, upgrading existing pedestrian pushbuttons to Accessible Pedestrian Signals, and upgrading existing 8-inch signal heads to 12-inch signal heads. Thank you to our hardworking staff for bringing this project to our community, along with GEOCON, UNICO Engineering, Inc., GPA Consulting, and HELIX Environmental Planning, Inc.!
