For this month’s First Friday post, we’re taking a look back at the origination of GTA’s logo! Every great company has a story, and ours started in 1985 with the founding of GTA. Two years later, we established Harford Drilling and Testing, Inc. (HDT) as the drilling arm for our firm, primarily for liability and insurance considerations. As part of a 1990 marketing program to create a high-profile corporate image, a logo was required. We wanted a bold, professional look—something easily recognizable that truly reflected our skills and the services we provided. The result? Logos which combine company “call letters” with a bold broken base line, symbolizing topography. The use of the same emblem for both companies represents the strong affiliation among the firms, while the distinct call letters and color schemes distinguish the specialization of each company: Green for GTA (environmental science & geotechnical engineering) and brown for HDT (subsurface exploration, soils and materials testing). As our operations evolved, HDT officially merged into GTA in 1999, streamlining processes for both our team and clients.
