Sending a big thank you to SeaAhead for inviting me to participate in the Feb 6th Offshore Renewable Energy Innovation event in Cambridge MA, it was my pleasure to be involved. There was plenty of lively discussion surrounding applications of new technology (autonomous and unmanned hardware as well as software) that will be supporting this industry in the near future, with some already implemented to varying degrees. Geo SubSea has been actively pushing these resources for adoption in numerous maritime sectors, as the need exists for more resources and especially those that can successfully accomplish missions where standard towed and tethered solutions are not adequate. The SeaAhead team did a fantastic job hosting this event and I appreciate the chance to talk with the other panelists and public that attended.?

Made the way up to Boston last Friday to attend EBC's annual offshore wind conference! It was great to hear about the steps that the state agencies and offshore wind developers are taking to keep the momentum going here in the northeast, and also get some information about what has been going on down in D.C. EBC put on a quality program with fantastic speakers as always, and it was lovely to make some new connections with the other attendees.

Very nice article featured on BBC..... highlighting research being done by several universities and reinforcing what the renewable energy industry already knows and has been promoting. The cumulative, long term man-made impacts driving climate change cannot be denied. The article looks at some comparisons between environmental impacts between the fossil fuel and renewable industries, discussing seabirds and marine mammals. https://lnkd.in/eBRAn8Em

As part of the Oceantic Network course “Offshore Wind Ready”, hosted at the Bear River Casino Resort in Loleta CA (Dec 11), Geo SubSea President Jeff Gardner supported the Vineyard Offshore team by attending and serving as the offshore subject matter expert on the local business round table. This interactive discussion was designed to provide local community firms with a summary of the types of company services and individual opportunities that would be realized from offshore wind projects happening in Humboldt County. Geo SubSea specifically focused on support that would be needed for all aspects of the marine site characterization and associated offshore efforts. Great turnout, interesting questions, and plenty of excitement surrounding these projects in northern CA. Glad to be a part of it! Jeff was also lucky enough to work in Eureka a couple extra days with the VO Team (thanks Thomas and Lucia for the area tour!).?

Geo SubSea was happy to attend and contribute to the Environmental Business Council’s 5th Annual Rhode Island Offshore Wind Conference on November 22. Thank you to the organizers for the invite! Jeff Motti spoke about survey lessons learned as a lead-in to some more specific talks about a variety of surveys, monitoring, and inspection efforts. Plenty of exciting work currently being executed offshore RI as well as enthusiasm and anticipation for things to come, especially integration of newer technologies. Knowing what the correct tool/system is to gather the proper marine scientific data is crucial, and further knowing what resources in the industry are capable of providing a suitable, quality solution is equally important. Give us a call if you would like to chat about how we can provide that subject matter expertise for your next project, in addition to a wide variety of technical specialties and support across many disciplines.?

For all those negative ninnies and naysayers out there who think minimal debris from offshore renewable energy activities and operation of those facilities are going to cause harm to marine wildlife… This beautiful bluefin tuna was caught last week by my marina neighbor close to Vineyard Wind 1’s AW38 wind turbine that suffered blade damage this summer. While any debris that accidently makes it into the ocean would be better off properly disposed of, the quantity here (one blade) dramatically pales in comparison to all the other trash and debris that ends up on New England beaches from numerous other offshore industries and the general public. Debris from construction of the offshore wind industry will not harm marine wildlife in any significant way, but the changing climate we are fighting against and passionate about as scientists certainly will. That’s the reason we are building renewable energy projects onshore and off. The companies and people involved will apply lessons learned and improve, and I’m proud to be a part of this energy revolution in the offshore space, doing what I/we (GSS) can to maintain a healthy planet and setup future generations for successful sustainability.?
