Wondering where Targeted Acoustic Startle Technology (TAST) can be found around the world? ?? This month, we’re featuring salmon fishers in Alaska, USA. Thanks to Tracy & Kim for sending this photo of TAST on the F/V Good News! ?? As shown in this image, our devices being used to mitigate harmful interactions between Steller sea lions and salmon fisheries as part of a project from researchers with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADFG) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Preliminary analyses of their results described a 91-94% reduction in predation on salmon within 35 meters of the TAST unit. We are excited to share the final report when it is available! ?? ???Want to see your TAST photo in a future post? Comment down below for a chance to be featured! ??
关于我们
GenusWave is a science-based company dedicated to implementing technologies that prevent human-wildlife conflict. Our main focus, Targeted Acoustic Startle Technology (TAST), deters marine mammals from human activities, ensuring their safety and minimizing disruption. TAST operates on the autonomous auditory startle reflex, triggering avoidance responses without causing harm. Our research, documented in peer-reviewed literature, continues to explore future applications to benefit both people and wildlife. TAST was developed at the University of St. Andrews' Scottish Oceans Institute, a globally renowned organization for marine mammal research. Our collaborative efforts aim to address the limitations of conventional Acoustic Deterrent Devices and protect marine life from human activities.

This week, we're recapping everything #SeafoodSummit24! ?????????????????? Day 1 of this year's Summit kicked off with a message from GSA CEO Mike Kocsis, followed by a welcome from our host nation by Seafood Scotland. The hallmark of a GSA event is a cutting-edge program featuring engaging speakers. This year, we had over 80 speakers share their expertise. Here's a taste of Day 1: ?? Keynote speaker Chris van der Kuyl CBE highlighted AI’s transformative potential in seafood production, emphasizing its role in enhancing efficiency and sustainability ?? Insightful seafood production data and analysis, presented by Rabobank, Expana and Kontali ?? Six afternoon breakout sessions dove deep into climate action, social accountability, artificial intelligence in seafood, as well as an exhibition on Scottish fishermen and a fisheries workshop ?? Annual Responsible Seafood Summit Innovation Awards, where GenusWave won the Fisheries category and Tiny Fish won the Aquaculture category Thanks to our photographer Ryan Murrant for capturing these photos ??

The three finalists in both categories (wild fisheries and aquaculture) for GSA's Innovation Awards all have great ideas to help fix problems in the industry. I particularly think the GenusWave technology to deter marine mammals from interacting with fishing or aquaculture gear is a good fit for Alaska, where we are blessed to have MANY marine mammals! https://lnkd.in/gDtapPg7

???? Exciting News from GenusWave! ???? Were you at the Responsible Seafood Summit last week? Hosted by the Global Seafood Alliance and Seafood Scotland, we are so grateful to have connected with so many others working to support sustainable seafood production. Furthermore, we are deeply honoured to share that GenusWave and the University of St Andrews were awarded the Responsible Seafood Innovation Award in the Fisheries category at this event, sponsored by the U.S. Soybean Export Council (USSEC). This prestigious recognition highlights our commitment to developing innovative solutions that promote sustainable fishing practices while protecting marine life. It is a testament to hard work and dedication by many to advancing sustainable fishing practices. Targeted Acoustic Startle Technology (TAST) has shown promising results in reducing interactions between marine mammals and fishing operations. Key outcomes include: ? A 97% reduction in losses to grey seals during hook and line mackerel fishing in Scotland ?A 74% increase of catch in the test net of a bottom set gillnet in England ? A 91-97% decrease in seal predation on salmon farms ? A 92% reduction in orca activity around herring purse seine fisheries in Norway ?Taxon-specific targeting, minimizing impact on non-target marine life We are grateful for the support of our collaborators and the fishing community, who have embraced our technology and shared their insights with us. This award inspires us to continue our mission of balancing industry needs with marine conservation, while striving for continuous evolution and improvement. Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey. Together, we can make a positive impact on our oceans. Now, the work continues! ???? #ResponsibleFishing #SustainableSeafood #MarineConservation #Gratitude #Innovation #AwardWinner Learn more about the 2024 Responsible Seafood Summit: https://lnkd.in/g2gAAugK

#GSA Innovation Awards sponsored by #USSEC yesterday. More photos to follow, but these are the Fisheries Innovation award finalists and Susan Watkins, a USB Board Director and #USSOY Farmer from Virginia. Innovation and more #investment are critical in #aquaculture, and former winners of these awards (there is one for fisheries and one for aquaculture) have leveraged these awards to get further funding and recognition. Congratulations to #GENUSWAVE and #TINYFISH, the fisheries and aquaculture innovation award winners!

We’re thrilled to celebrate the winners of the Responsible Seafood Innovation Awards as announced in Scotland at this year’s Global Seafood Alliance Responsible Seafood Summit! ?? USSEC sponsors these awards to recognize groundbreaking solutions to some of the biggest challenges in seafood today, across aquaculture and fisheries. ?? Aquaculture Winner: Tiny Fish Tiny Fish has transformed Scottish salmon farming with its focus on finding unique markets for small salmon which are typically too small to be raised at sea. Tiny Fish’s innovation ensures that every fish can be harvested and sold for nutritional value-added purposes. ?? Fisheries Winner: GenusWave GenusWave has developed a technology using species-specific startle sounds to keep seals, orcas, and other marine mammals away from fishing operations, reducing bycatch and noise pollution. These innovators are leading the way towards a more sustainable future for seafood. ???? #seafoodsummit24 #SustainableSeafood #Innovation #Aquaculture #ResponsibleSeafood #USSoy
