🎉 Congratulations to Joel Bevenour, Gentle Giant’s Athlete of the Month for December 🏆 Joel, a Philadelphia Giant since 2022, is also a senior on the La Salle University Men’s Rowing team, where he’s been captain since sophomore year. Under his leadership, the team has made remarkable strides, winning the Collegiate 8+ event at the Head of the Charles this fall and climbing the national ranks. Beyond rowing, Joel values teamwork and growth—qualities he’s brought to his time at Gentle Giant. He credits rowing and moving for shaping his perspectives on collaboration and building meaningful connections. We’re proud to celebrate Joel’s achievements and his incredible team-first attitude! 💪

Meet Steven "Rooty" Leonard the Giant. Rooty is one of the original Giants, joining the company in June 1980 when Gentle Giant was just an ambitious startup with one truck, three movers, and a pocketbook of jobs. Rooty’s journey with Gentle Giant began long before the company existed. While rowing together at Northeastern University, he met Larry O'Toole, Gentle Giant's founder. In June 1980, Larry asked Rooty if he could lend a hand on a move, and the rest is history 📦 From that first day, Rooty became a cornerstone of the team, helping Gentle Giant grow from its humble beginnings. One by one, the team of Larry, Bruce West, and Rooty expanded, bringing on more Giants like Doug Dietz. And they built a reputation for excellence and kindness with every move. Rooty fondly recalls the camaraderie and great atmosphere that defined those early years. The team worked hard, had fun, and took pride in their work. The most rewarding part for Rooty was always the customer's gratitude at the end of a job well done! A Giant through and through, Rooty became Gentle Giant’s very first Hall of Fame inductee in 1989. His contributions, dedication, and compassion set the standard for being a Gentle Giant. Over the years, Rooty witnessed the company’s growth and innovation firsthand. One major milestone came in 1996 with the arrival of Gentle Giant’s first crane. For Rooty, the most memorable crane job involved moving a hyperbaric chamber. He also led training programs for new movers in the form of GG101, crew chiefs, drivers, and, later, CDL training. It's hard to describe the impact Rooty has made at Gentle Giant. His name is etched in the company's history not just as one of the originals but as someone who helped shape its culture. His story is a reminder of the passion and dedication that built Gentle Giant. We're lucky to have ya Rooty 👏😊
