  • You are invited to join our team as we explore the perceived barriers to - and opportunities surrounding - Ground Source Heat Pump (GSHP) adoption. As the world pushes for cleaner energy, heat pumps are crucial to reaching Net Zero by 2030. While 253 million heat pumps are expected to be in use globally by then, the target is 600 million - leaving a 58% shortfall. The UK’s slow adoption is clear, with only 55,000 units sold in 2022 versus 620,000 in France. This led us to explore what’s holding back GSHP uptake and how we can overcome these challenges. Our survey, conducted with industry leaders, revealed key insights into the obstacles and drivers shaping the future of GSHPs. You’re now invited to a webinar to join Genius Energy Lab’s experts as we run through the results of this survey, exploring the challenges and opportunities around positioning GSHP technology as our go-to source for heating and cooling our buildings. Discover key insights from our study on cost, misconceptions, and lifecycle benefits of GSHPs and learn how we can accelerate adoption in the UK and beyond. Date: 10th December 2024 Time: 1pm GMT? • The Genius Energy Lab team were delighted to visit the Kensa Group factory in Cornwall last month, alongside our marketing partners, Wildtribe. It was a valuable opportunity to hear directly from Kensa’s CTO, James Standley, and get an inside look at the factory where sustainable heating solutions are being pioneered. This long-term partnership with Kensa is part of our commitment to building a greener, more sustainable Britain through networked ground source heat pumps, offering efficient, cost-effective, and secure heating and cooling for homes and businesses at scale. The day was also a great chance to introduce new team members and our marketing specialists from Wildtribe, who bring expertise in renewable energy messaging and strategy, sparking fresh ideas on communicating the promise of ground source heating for the UK's future. Key discussions included the spark ratio (the cost differential between gas and electricity) and Kensa’s innovative Shoebox NX, a compact heat pump with an impressive seasonal coefficient of performance (SCOP) of 5.35, setting new standards for energy efficiency and regulatory compliance. A huge thank you to the Kensa team for their warm welcome and for the insights that are powering our mission to make ground source heating the cornerstone of sustainable energy in the UK. #Kensa #GeniusEnergyLab #HeatPumps #GroundSourceHeating #RenewableEnergyMarketingAgency

Our latest article - ‘The Power and Promise of Ground Source Heat Pumps (GSHPs): The Leading Green Technology to Decarbonise the UK’s Heating’ - is out! This time, we explore the state of GSHP adoption in the UK, especially in new builds and commercial developments, and focus on the trends shaping their future. Here are 5 key elements we take a closer look at: 1. New Builds: With the Future Homes Standard (FHS) set to ban gas boilers in new homes by 2025, GSHPs numbers are set to rocket. The largest-ever agreement between GTC and The Kensa Group is set to deliver GSHPs for tens of thousands of new homes annually, showing the momentum behind this shift. 2. Commercial Scale: GSHPs are also gaining ground in large commercial projects, offering both financial savings and reduced carbon footprints, aligning with corporate ESG goals. 3. Evolving Technology: Advances in GSHP technology, from compact models like the Shoebox NX to smarter controls and quicker, more affordable installations, are driving adoption forward. 4. Long-Term Benefits: Though the initial investment can seem high, GSHPs offer long-term savings—up to 70% on heating bills and 50% on cooling, along with extended lifespans. 5. Overcoming Barriers: Misconceptions around complexity and cost are holding some back from adopting this technology, but through education and training, we can unlock the full potential of GSHPs for all future projects. • It’s fantastic to see our collaborative endeavour to bring a community heat network to the residents of Sydney Street and nearby areas of Chelsea come to fruition with the soon-to-be-completed feasibility study. In what’s been called “a groundbreaking feasibility study”, the initiative brings our team together with the Sydney Street and District Residents' Association, Cagni Williams Associates (Architects and Urban Designers) and Kensa Utilities (Ambient Loop Network Installation and Funding). As well as aiming to provide the residents with carbon-free heating and cooling through a networked ground source heat pump system, we hope the successful model we establish will become a blueprint for similar community energy projects across the UK. Stay tuned for our team's detailed exploration of this project in the coming weeks. #GroundSourceHeatPump #NetZero #CommunityEnergy #NetworkedHeatPumps #HeatPumps

  • As COP29 approaches next month, the focus on accelerating the global energy transition and addressing climate resilience is more urgent than ever. With Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) at the heart of international climate agreements, solutions that will help countries achieve their climate goals will be under discussion. The UK government is expected to present a higher climate pledge -? with Energy Security and Net Zero Secretary Ed Miliband having already sought formal advice from the Climate Change Committee on what the UK’s NDC should look like. By significantly reducing carbon emissions from heating, ground source heat pump networks (district heating) is one mechanism governments can use to align with the targets set out in NDCs and get on track with their climate pledges. As COP29 draws nearer, we remain committed to raising awareness of ground source heating as the most energy-efficient form of heating and cooling. Our goal is to support decision-makers both in the UK and internationally in turning climate pledges into meaningful climate action. #GSHPs #HeatPumps #Decarbonisation #COP29 #ClimateAction

  • Could you be entitled to a Heat Pump Grant? The Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) is part of the UK government’s broader strategy to support the transition to low-carbon heating systems. This is to decarbonise heating and make homes more sustainable, whilst also reducing long-term energy costs. Households in England, Wales and Scotland can now apply and receive £7,500 to install a heat pump, making it more affordable than ever.? This is one of Europe's most generous schemes, bringing prices for heat pumps down to around the typical £2,500–£3,000 cost of gas boilers when you take advantage of these grants and additional discounts.
