In 2019, we rolled out this "Vision Tree" to our internal team at Genies, illustrating our roadmap and aspirations for what we referred to as "avatar ecosystems" at the time. For us, the concept of an avatar ecosystem envisioned a virtual space like a Roblox or Fortnite—a space made up of interconnected components including the avatars themselves, the spaces they exist in, and the experiences they participate in. The roots represented these foundational components needed for the ecosystem, while the branches symbolized the aspirational concepts of the ecosystem. Fast forward to today, and that vision has evolved into ??????????????—as we’re finally able to realize the full vision of this tree ?? encompassing both roots and branches. Earlier this week we unveiled the launch of Parties for IP owners and brands, along with the technology stack we’ve been building to power Parties - the culmination of this vision tree and now years of development - setting the foundation for how people will create, socialize, and interact online ?? Parties are customizable gaming platforms powered by our advanced tech stack, merging Smart Avatars, personalized gameplay, and user-generated content (UGC) to create highly engaging and collaborative experiences. Designed around specific IP, Parties allow brands, developers, and users to build dynamic digital ecosystems where creativity thrives. Avatars are the anti-camera ?? As social media evolves, many traditional platforms have turned into spaces where performative content thrives. The top creators and influencers often dominate the conversation, setting high standards that younger users feel pressured to meet. With instant access to the world's content at their fingertips, younger generations are constantly comparing themselves to these idealized portrayals, leading to rising anxiety around self-image and perfection. But there’s a flip side: the rise of new digital avenues for authentic self-expression. As Gen Z and Gen Alpha grow up in this landscape, they’re experimenting with their identities more than ever—whether through fashion, avatars, or creative outlets within virtual worlds. The camera naturally leads to performative expression - when there's a camera on you, you feel like you have to perform, but we're in an age where people want to be authentic and raw and experimental. Avatars are like a camera for your mind and they allow you funnel more of your authentic self and experiment without fear of judgement. At Genies, we’ve always believed that avatars hold the power to unlock deeper forms of authentic self-expression. Through avatars, people can communicate, interact, and showcase parts of themselves that they may not feel comfortable sharing on traditional social media. Avatars provide a new format for exploration, experimentation, and ultimately, self-discovery in ways that can feel more liberating and less performative.
