March is Colon Cancer Awareness Month Colorectal cancer is the second-leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States. Colorectal cancer is also one of the most preventable types of cancer. Screening for colon cancer is?vital as early detection of colon cancer and polyps through screening can save lives. General screening for colon cancer should be initiated at age 45 (sometimes younger based on personal and family history).?The CDC estimates that one in three adults between the ages of 50 and 75 are not receiving colonoscopies despite the screening recommendations. Do not skip the scope, be proactive! Colon cancer may sometimes be inherited, therefore people with a family history of colon cancer should discuss screening recommendations and genetic testing options with their healthcare team.?Genescreen’s team of specialized hereditary cancer genetic counselors are here to provide support to both provider and patients interested in exploring genetic testing for themselves and/or their patients. #hereditarycancer #coloncancer #coloncancerawareness

February 4th is World Cancer Day: This day was established to raise awareness and to encourage prevention, detection, and treatment. Genescreen’s team of specialized hereditary cancer genetic counselors are here to provide education and support to patients about the importance of being proactive, and to assist healthcare providers who would like a genetic counselor to guide patients through their genetic testing journey. Our Hereditary Cancer Team is here to care for all patients: those who have never had cancer but are concerned about their risk, those who want to learn more about genetic mutations that could be passed on to their children, or those with active cancer hoping to use genetic information to aid in treatment decisions. ?
