Happy New Year! For all its craziness, 2020 was in fact our 100th year of operation as a company. Since we could not celebrate in person, we put together the following video to celebrate the occasion instead, and as a tribute to all of our front-line workers, who's personal sacrifice saw us through this year. Many topics were discussed, including implementation of the new U.S. Electronic Export Manifest system (EEM), which will become mandatory soon, and will replace the current 1302A Cargo Declaration for all cargoes being exported from the United States. Pilot programs are currently being tested, and we encourage all owner/operators to become familiar with the new requirements. Enrollment in EEM will be completed via your current ACE/AMS filer. Operators will further be required to have a valid U.S. SCAC Code on file to utilize the new system. Photos of the Week! ?? Our colleagues in the U.S. Gulf saw a once in a lifetime snow storm this week, shattering many records. Texas experienced its first-ever blizzard warning. Baytown, Houston, recorded 5.5 inches of snow. Mobile, Alabama, saw an all-time record high of 7.5 inches. New Orleans recorded 8 inches, marking the most snow in the city since 1895. It is with some sadness, that we report Tom Rueter is retiring from Alaska Maritime Agencies this month. Tom joined our team in June 2004, and since then, has been a cornerstone of our success, bringing not only his expertise, but also kindness, dedication, and passion for his work. While we will certainly miss Tom’s presence in the office, we are excited for him to embark on this new chapter in his life. Tom will be opening his own consulting firm, Anchor Associates, and will remain available to assist the local maritime industry in the years ahead. We wish Tom all the best as he enjoys the fruits of his labor and begins this well-deserved retirement.
