The Air Force plans to move away from platform-centric electronic warfare and has ambitions to reprogram systems in as near to real-time as possible, according to a two-part series in DefenseScoop exploring how the Air Force is looking to modernize and reinvigorate electronic warfare. Part 1: https://ow.ly/Jejn50TwNuT Part 2: https://ow.ly/xjFR50TwNuQ The show of flexibility, openness and ambition here are very encouraging. GMS’ family of SIPR/NIPR cross-domain solutions in small form factor and OpenVPX are MOSA-modular, able to adapt in real-time as well as literally swap out hardware in minutes. The theme of this year’s Association of the U.S. Army Annual Meeting and Exposition, Oct. 14-16, is "Transforming for a Complex World," highlighting the Army’s efforts to transform, modernize and restructure for the future fight. Visit Ben Sharfi and Chris A. Ciufo at General Micro Systems booth 8407. ‘Transformation’ evokes changing from something…into something. The Army is doing several things all in parallel. In our recent lifetime, it was required to fight two simultaneous wars, tooled up to deal with the asymmetric warfare of Iraq and Afghanistan, and now recognizes that the main battle tank ground war they thought was obsolete now looks very real due to the war in Ukraine. Sprinkle in the force multiplier of UAVs and the plethora of modern AI and high-rate comms/sensors at the edge: maybe ‘transformation’ isn’t a big enough word. At AUSA, GMS will show our third year of the exponentially-evolving X9 Spider small form factor distributed computing architecture ecosystem. We showcase actual on-battlefield X9 applications, including portable EW in the palm of your hand, and an airborne cross-domain system (3 domains) based entirely on X9 off-the-shelf modules. GMS’ experience with cyber applications is presented and additions to our SecureDNA? enclave suite are revealed. If the Army needs available-right-now! transformative technologies: GMS is the place to visit first. Again, we'll be in Booth 8407. Thales Defense & Security has been awarded an order by the U.S. Army for 2,705 additional AN/PRC-148F radios as part of the service’s HMS tactical radio program. This is their seventh order for Leader Radios since 2018, and it brings TDSI's total to 14,734. The Leader Radio, which can be upgraded through software applications, provides Soldiers and commanders with modern network communication and can support the Army’s Next Generation C2 efforts. https://lnkd.in/dbPsEMdg Thales Defense & Security, Inc. Changing up and coordinating its recruiting has paid off for the US Army, which announced it has met its 2024 recruiting goal—a month ahead of schedule. According to Association of the United States Army - AUSA, Covid and other factors have made military service a tough sell over the last few years. https://lnkd.in/dfbtc3GX

Given the military's and government's increasing reliance on Elon Musk and SpaceX, it's interesting that there was "debate within Washington over whether it was wise to place so much reliance on one company." (Intel. Not SpaceX.) It may just boil down to the self-confidence each exudes—or does not. The Army has deployed a generative AI platform from Ask Sage to cArmy, its cloud services infrastructure. They really have to thread the needle here. Given the challenges posed by AI for data privacy, security, and control over the generated content, they can't move forward fast enough—or cautiously enough—with this. It will help if this experiment is taking place in close collaboration with the Air Force's NIPRGPT project. Fingers crossed on that. 'These are things that keep people alive.' When it comes to the rapidly-advancing AI and machine learning landscape, it's better to ask permission than to beg forgiveness. It's a huge job, but this NGA standardization pilot program, described in DefenseScoop, is an important start: https://lnkd.in/ePrb7Xrx #AI #ML
