GelMEDIX Inc. is an early-stage biotechnology company leveraging its hydrogel platform to develop ocular and regenerative therapies that can restore vision. GelMEDIX was founded after multiple years of fruitful academic collaboration between our co-founders Reza Dana (Mass. Eye And Ear, Harvard Med. School) and Nasim Annabi (UCLA).? While current retinal cell therapies leveraging retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) cells are promising, they suffer from process limitations that lead to high adverse event rates (i.e. retinal membrane formation, retinal detachment/hemorrhage) that make them unable to improve patient vision at scale. GelMEDIX is excited to present never-before-seen data on novel approaches to RPE regeneration at the upcoming Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) and Ophthalmology Innovation Source OIS Retina conferences in Seattle. We'll share how in situ formed hydrogel scaffolds optimize RPE engraftment leading to an 8X increase in cell localization and improved cell morphology post-transplantation in porcine, as well as never-before shared data demonstrating RPE monolayer restoration in a rabbit model of GA. https://lnkd.in/e_WrdqAH
