  • The media landscape is evolving at a relentless pace — shrinking newsrooms, shifting algorithms and emerging content platforms make it impossible to rely on a single strategy. Brands that don’t adapt risk losing relevance and visibility. In her recent byline with Ragan Communications and PR Daily, our president, Heather Whaling, highlighted the three audits that every brand and communicator should know. - Social Media Audit:?Are you on the right platforms? Is your content driving meaningful engagement? - Competitive Earned Media Audit:?Where does your media presence stand compared to competitors? - Strategic Communication Audit: Is your media mix delivering maximum ROI? These aren't about fixing what's broken but optimizing what's working to refine messaging and maximize impact.

Your audience has moved. Have you? Too often, brands pour time, money, and resources into social media—only to see engagement drop, reach decline, and conversations happen elsewhere. The problem isn’t always the content. Sometimes, it’s the platform. As I shared with Ragan Communications and PR Daily, a social media audit helps answer key questions: 1) Are we investing in the right platforms? (Where is your audience actually active?) 2) What type of content resonates most? (Video, infographics, thought leadership?) 3) How are people engaging with us? (Likes don’t tell the whole story—what’s the sentiment behind interactions?) 4) Are we measuring up to competitors? (Who’s leading the conversation in your space?) ?? Case Study: A consumer goods brand we worked with saw a major drop in organic engagement on Instagram. After a social media audit, we discovered their audience had migrated to LinkedIn and niche online communities. By shifting resources, they increased engagement by 40% in just three months. The lesson? Social media isn’t “set it and forget it.” Platforms evolve, algorithms shift, and audience behaviors change. Regular audits keep you ahead of the curve. If you’re unsure whether your social media strategy is working as hard as it should, let’s chat. Drop a comment or DM me—I’d love to hear how your brand is navigating these changes. https://lnkd.in/gNn85pEZ

LinkedIn isn’t what it used to be. More people are getting political—and that can be a good thing if you know how to navigate it. Your voice reflects your company, making clarity and strategy essential. An Issues Workshop helps define where your brand can contribute meaningfully, while the ACTIONS Model provides a framework for thoughtful response—whether that’s amplifying experts, taking action, or choosing silence. If you haven’t brought your team together yet, now is the time. Hear more from our founder and president Heather Whaling. ??

In case you missed it, Meta recently announced it's scrapping its third-party fact-checking program and replacing it with a "Community Notes" system—similar to the approach used by X (formerly Twitter). This move is framed as simplifying content moderation and prioritizing free speech, but we've seen this cautionary tale play out before. Since Elon Musk's takeover of X and the implementation of its community-based fact-checking system, content has become increasingly divisive, driving many users and businesses away from the platform. While it's too early to say what impact these changes will have on Facebook, Instagram and Threads, here's what brands can do now to prepare: 1?? ?????????????? ???????? ????????????????: Assess how your target audience reacts to these changes and engages with Meta's platforms moving forward. A shift in audience behavior could signal it's time to reallocate resources. 2?? ???????????????????? ?????????? ??????????????s: Platforms will continue to evolve, but your email list, website, and other owned channels are places where you control the narrative. One of my favorite quotes is: “Life isn’t linear, but it is abundant.” (Life is in the Transitions by Bruce Feiler). Fifteen years ago today, I started Geben during a time of enormous uncertainty—2009, the height of the recession. Building this company has embodied that quote in every way: The journey hasn’t been linear, but it’s been far more energizing, challenging, and rewarding than I ever imagined. Every day—but especially today—I’m filled with gratitude: ?? To the clients who trust us. ?? To the friends who refer us. ?? To the community that roots for us. ?? To everyone who has been part of #TeamGeben: You helped shape what makes us us, and I am so deeply appreciative for you. You learn a lot in 15 years of building a business. When I started Geben, I hadn’t looked at a P&L, didn’t know how to forecast, and had a very loose relationship with the concept of budgeting. Yet, I knew there was a different, better way to build an agency—one that prioritized people and profit, innovation and intention. So, today, in honor of Geben’s 15th anniversary, I want to share some lessons I’ve learned along the way. If you’re considering starting a business—or if you’re in the messy middle of entrepreneurship—I hope this encourages and energizes you: 1?? Build a company you love, and you’ll build a life you love. 2?? Being CEO can be lonely, but it doesn’t have to be. Create the right leadership team and surround yourself with mentors, advisors, and friends who get it and get you. 3?? Not all feedback is a gift. Know who to listen to—and how to tune out the rest. 4?? Believe in the (seemingly) absurd ideas. 5?? Bet on yourself. Always. 6?? Feel your feelings, but avoid making big decisions when you’re angry, frustrated, or anxious. Wait out the inner turbulence. 7?? Handpick your mentors, advisors, coaches, and hype squad. Find your people, and you’ll find yourself. 8?? Action sparks impact. 9?? Intentionality fuels ambition. ?? Only work with lawyers, accountants, and financial advisors who align with your values and goals. Good counsel is the bare minimum—expect more. 1??1?? Debt and credit are tools, just like the internet or your phone. Use them wisely, without judgment. 1??2?? Invest in reciprocal relationships. 1??3?? Prioritize unapologetically. 1??4?? Execute ruthlessly. 1??5?? When you give more, you grow more. Fifteen years ago, I took a leap into the unknown, and it’s been an incredible journey of growth, connection, and impact. Thank you to everyone who’s been part of it—here’s to the next chapter! ??

Recently, two members of our Geben team visited The Ohio State University to speak in Professor Jasmine Roberts-Crews’ Writing for Strategic Communication class. Mallory Grayson, an OSU alumna (Class of ‘17) and a seasoned pro at Geben shared her career journey and the realities of agency life. Joining her was Dominique Buchanan, a newer member of the team, who brought fresh perspectives from transitioning from client-side to agency work. Not only was this Dominique’s first speaking engagement, but her insights resonated powerfully with students eager to carve their own paths. At Geben, we believe in equipping the next generation with practical wisdom and building a bridge from academia to industry with transparency and authenticity. Here’s to shaping future leaders in communication and digital marketing! #OSU #PRPros
