Strengthening the corporate accountability ecosystem for nature by empowering a global web of accountability actors
关于我们
The Accountability Accelerator, part of the Global Commons Alliance, is a global collaborative of philanthropists and practitioners focused on creating a comprehensive accountability ecosystem for nature that scales and accelerates corporate action. Accountability is an ecosystem of actors and actions that includes incentives for companies to take the first steps towards a nature-positive economy. The tighter and more coordinated the accountability web, the fewer opportunities for inaction and greenwashing. Companies and governments have a crucial role to play and must be engaged in the process. To achieve our mission, diverse stakeholders must work together, supported by a multi-layered accountability architecture with mutually reinforcing and complementary approaches leveraging data & standards, financial institutions, campaigns, and a range of legal measures. Combined, these levers can help shift action on nature from voluntary to mandatory.

?? ?????????????????????? ???????? ??????????: ???????????????? ?? ???????????? ?????????? ?????? ???????????????????????????? ?? Our experience at COP16 was not only about impactful sessions and learning from partners but also about coming together as a global team. The Accountability Accelerator participated in inspiring panels and discussions—both hosting and joining those led by the Global Commons Alliance, Science Based Targets Network (SBTN), and others. Engaging in these discussions underscored an important truth: ??????????’?? ?????????? ???????? ???? ???? ???????? ???? ???????????? ???????? ???????????????????? ?????? ?????????????? ?????????? ?????????? ?????? ?????????? ???????? ???????? ???? ????????. Here are some of the key themes we’ll carry forward: ?? ???????????????? ?????? ???????????????????? ?????? Across various panels, a shared concern emerged: technology is not yet reaching the communities where it’s needed most. From Indigenous lands to remote areas, technology-driven accountability tools remain inaccessible to many on the frontlines of nature conservation. Empowering these communities with tools and platforms is essential for impactful, inclusive progress. ??? ???????????????????? ?????????????????????? ???? ?????? ???????? Indigenous communities shared that they often feel sidelined in decision-making processes. At COP16, we reinforced the need for Indigenous leadership in self-determination, decision making, technology design, and nature action—an inclusive approach that will shape the success of our journey toward a just transition and nature-positive future. ?? ?????????????????????????? ?????? ???????? ?????????????????????? The conference also provided our global team with a rare opportunity to connect in person. From team strategy sessions to an inspiring visit to Cali's new Botanical Gardens, we strengthened our bond, refined our vision, and built on our shared purpose. These moments together were invaluable, and they will deepen our collaboration as we work across borders to drive accountability for a better world. A heartfelt thank you to everyone we engaged with at COP16! Let’s continue building a future where communities, ecosystems, and accountability thrive together. ???? ?#COP16 #AccountabilityAccelerator #IndigenousRights #TeamUnity #NaturePositive Natasha Milan Matic, Ph.D., Randall Krantz, Mariana Cascardo Michael, Natasha Tariq, Seema Joshi, Dean Cambridge, Paola D. ?? ?????????? ?????? ?????? ?????????????? ???? ???? ???????? ?????????????? ??????????! ?? We are incredibly grateful to everyone who attended our panel, ?? ???????? & ???????? ???????????? ????????????????????: ???????????????? ???????????????????? ??????????????' ???????????? ?????? ???????????????????? ????????????, moderated by Randall Krantz from the ???????????????????????????? ??????????????????????. Our panellists, including Hindou Oumarou Ibrahim (??????????), Bryan Bixcul (??????????), Sonia Guajajara (Minister of Indigenous Peoples of Brazil), ?????? Akanksha Khatri (?????????? ???????????????? ??????????), shared valuable insights on the critical role of Indigenous leadership in driving a just and sustainable global energy transition. The discussion underscored the importance of self-determination, free, prior, and informed consent (FPIC), biodiversity protection, and the need to centre Indigenous voices in decision-making processes. Hindou opened with a summary of the ???????????????????? ?????????????? ???????????????????? ?????? ?????????????????? ?????? ???????? ????????????????????, which outlines 11 principles that underscore unanimous agreement about the definitions, principles, and protocols that must be foundational for Just Transition. S?nia Guajajara emphasized the urgent need for a global, united effort—indigenous communities alone cannot tackle this challenge. There is a need for the protection of Indigenous peoples and their lands, restoration and remediation where harm is done, and accountability to ensure that funding and action follow through on intergovernmental processes and agreements. Accountability is crucial across both legal and illegal mining sectors. Bryan and Akanksha highlighted that legal concession does not always mean it is right per environmental standards. Bryan noted that we don’t need to focus on new laws as much as enforcing existing ones. Akanksha added that while regulation can set the minimum viable performance standard, companies have an opportunity to go beyond and raise ambition. ?? We look forward to continuing the conversation about accountability for a safe and just transition, and invite others to join us on this journey in placing human rights at the center of our work on nature, shaping a more equitable and sustainable future. ???????? ?????? ???????????? ?????? ???????????? ?????????? ????????: https://lnkd.in/eRwD2RAX #COP16 #IndigenousRights #EnergyTransition #NaturePositive #ClimateAction #Biodiversity #SustainableFuture #AccountabilityAccelerator Galina Angarova Natasha Milan Matic, Ph.D. Natasha Tariq Dean Cambridge Mariana Cascardo Michael Seema Joshi Paola D. ????????? ?????????????? we brought together 50 grantees, partners, and funders of the Accountability Accelerator for our ?????????????????? ???????????????? ???????????????? on the sidelines of COP16 in Cali, Colombia. With a focus on organizations working at the community level, the session highlighted practical tools, frameworks, and approaches used by different organizations to drive corporate accountability on nature issues. We opened with a marketplace in which a selection of our grantees presented their work. Special thanks to Timer Manurung from Auriga Nusantara, Melis Ford from World Benchmarking Alliance, @Vinicius Lameira Bernardo from ABRAMPA, Daniel Arancibia from PROFOREST, Bryan Bixcul from SIRGE, Laia Cabrera and Isabelle Duverger from Perrenial Land, Gisela B. Hurtado Barboza from Stand.Earth, Margaux Day from Accountability Counsel, and Guillermo Torres and @Jesus Guarneros ProDESC from ProDESC.? Throughout the workshop, we explored key questions around sharing accountability experiences, community building around a sense of common purpose, and raising awareness through sharing our collective success. ???Collectively, participants explored how we can be more effective as an ecosystem, exploring opportunities through a framework at three levels:? ????? ????????????????????: the high-level idea, the vision or philosophy behind a topic, ????? ????????: the processes and strategies we need to implement in order to make our vision come true, ????? ????????????????????: the specific tasks and actions required to implement a processe or strategy. ??A few highlights from the conversations: ??. We need to better connect these conversations to the COP process, ??. There is an opportunity to bring more empathy into the finance sector, companies, and all around, ??. We need business, financial institutions, scientists, and indigenous peoples in the room, ??. More exchanges like this based on trust and mutual respect are needed. It was inspiring to be among all these organizations! Special thanks to all the participants who made this event a success, to our facilitator Randall Krantz, and to Natasha Matic for her insightful closing remarks. We look forward to continuing these conversations and collaborations as we strive toward a nature-positive future by 2030. #COP16 #CorporateAccountability #CommunityBuilding #NaturePositive #CollectiveImpact #GBFTargets #Sustainability #Partnerships #EnvironmentalAction #AccountabilityAccelerator #NatureConservation Randall Krantz Natasha Milan Matic, Ph.D. Natasha Tariq Dean Cambridge Mariana Cascardo Michael Seema Joshi
