New service to Port Talbot Steelworks for Tata Steel UK! ?? GBRf has started a new service for Tata Steel UK, moving imported steel slab from the Port of Bristol at Portbury to the giant steelworks at Port Talbot. ??GBRf will be running this service until the end of 2027 when Tata Steel’s new three million tonne-per-year Electric Arc Furnace is due to be completed. ?? The Bristol Port Company is supporting GBRf with their brand-new battery-powered electro-permanent lifting magnets. These will be used to lift the slabs of steel, each of which can weigh up to 30 tonnes - around the same as 15 family cars. ?? On the eve of International Women’s Day, one of our Train Managers, Bessie Matthews, spoke to Logistics Matters. Read her interview here: https://lnkd.in/etDagVWj Bessie speaks about her experience as a female driver surrounded by men, how this changing and what more needs to be done to encourage women to pursue a career on the rails. “As I progressed in my career, I started to see just how important visibility and representation are for women in rail. When I was working as a guard, it didn’t feel obvious to me that I could make the leap to driving. I would look up to female drivers and think ‘my goodness that’s cool – I could do that!’. If I hadn’t been able to see other women making a success of themselves in such a male-dominated industry, I’m not sure I’d be where I am today. Ultimately, if you don’t see people that look like you doing what you want to do, it’s difficult to picture yourself doing it. I’m sure countless women have given up on their dreams because of a lack of representation, so I’m very pleased this is changing.” Bessie Matthews #InternationalWomensDay #IWD25 #AccelerateAction #WomenInRail

Our HS2 joint-venture team, Eiffage Kier Ferrovial BAM (EKFB), are showing just how critical rail freight is to the UK after they welcomed their 1000th train to Quainton railhead (the point at which the railway ends, and other transport routes begin). Once materials are delivered to site by train, they are stockpiled before being distributed along our dedicated internal haul roads, minimising disruption to local roads and offsetting a huge amount of carbon too! In total, we’ve already taken over 160,000 lorries off roads in Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and West Northants! Deputy project director for EKFB, Christos Fasoulas, said: “This achievement demonstrates our commitment for sustainable delivery as we reduce our carbon footprint and support the community by removing a significant number of vehicles from the local roads.” Fishbone Solutions, DCRail, GB Railfreight, Heidelberg Materials #rail #HS2 #freight #infrastructure

Good Morning All! Within our new depot, we removed the existing, salvaged and installed a new train line. We have showcased the sign off and importation of material, but as fans and supporters of rail, we felt we had no option but to share the engineering and hard work which went into the actual track installation. We breakdown the entire process: * Surveying * Engineer calculations * Demolition * Ground work * Restoration * Installation * Sign off * Costs! If you have ever wondered how to install a train line, create a real life train set or have an interest in engineering, this one is for you! Thank you to the team at Pod-Trak for all their hard work and the Network Rail team Gregory March Jess Lippett Charlotte Ashton Guy Bates Keegan Armstrong and Jenni Cox, GB Railfreight Rail Freight Group Maggie Simpson OBE Nick Gallop Mike Higgins for all their support. https://lnkd.in/ext8QXD3 #construction #Business #trains #railway #railways #engineering
