Over the past 24 hours we’ve seen the outpouring of grief, sadness, anger and anxiety as a result of the US Presidential election. This was absolutely the right response and we all needed a day to grieve, to breathe and to regroup. But to paraphrase VP Harris’ speech, we may have lost the election, but we have not lost the fight. Now more than ever, we need to come together as a community and support each other. The LGBTQIA+ movement was born out of a fight and we continue to fight for our equal rights. But remember, it’s a fight we’re winning - 80% of all Americans support LGBTQIA+ anti-discrimination laws. It’s only a small minority that use our community, especially the trans community, as a wedge issue to divide and rile up their base. The NBC Exit Poll showed that significantly more LGBTQIA+ people voted Democrat than any other presidential cycle. Our community organised and came together in the most dramatic way.? We will endure and we will thrive. LGBTQIA+ media, community groups and leaders must bring the community together and be beacons of hope. We intend to do just that and encourage our fellow media outlets to join us in the fight, not as competitors but as compatriots in a shared mission of representation. Brands and allies - it’s time for you to step up too. The LGBTQIA+ community needs your support and will need your active allyship. This is far more than putting a rainbow on your socials every June, this is actively supporting the work of LGBTQIA+ media and non-profits 365 days of the year. In return, the LGBTQIA+ community will see your allyship in action and, as has been proven in many studies, will repay you with brand loyalty. Brave hearts. Bold minds. Let’s make a difference. Let’s fight. #lgbtq #pride #uselection

? Meet the Scholars! ? We’re so sad that it’s the final day of this series but here is our very last scholar of our cohort. Let’s meet…. Sawyer Schill! Sawyer Schill (he/him) is a student at University of Central Florida as a sophomore and will be pursuing a degree in Film with a minor in Music. Previously focusing on animation, Sawyer is now focused on the storytelling and musical aspects of the video game industry as he aspires to one day work on either the writing, production, or soundtrack of story-based games such as Elden Ring and God of War. His favorite video game is Night in the Woods purely for its incredible soundtrack and impactful story that leaves a lasting impression on its players. #scholarship #lgbtq #representation #gaming #gamingindustry

? Meet the Scholars! ? So sad we only have 3 scholars left to introduce and it’s almost over! Let’s meet… Kathryn Ivanov and Anna Piccione! Kathryn Ivanov (she/her) is a student at the University of Hawai’i and is pursuing her Masters of Science in Marketing Management. Throughout the years she has worked as a content creator and content manager with her university esports program, which has made her want to stay and work in that industry. Kathryn’s favorite game is Valorant and she even played on her university's marginalized gender Valorant team. Anna Piccione (she/her) is a student at Rochester Institute of Technology with a Bachelor's degree in Game Design & Development and is pursuing her Master's in Artificial Intelligence. Anna defines herself as many things, but her heart lies in the video game industry as an indie developer. With a primary focus on programming, she also excels as a 2D artist and designer. Her passion for nature and ecosystems has grown alongside her career aspirations, leading her to specialize in creature and ecosystem creation development within the gaming industry. #scholarship #lgbtq #representation #gaming #gamingindustry

? Wizard of Engagement ? @ Indie Game Academy | Project Manager | Looking to uplift the voices of Game Devs, one post at a time | #OpenToNetwork ??
I rarely ask for help from my network, but if anyone could please send some support, a good friend is about to go homeless. ?? Sakura Shih is in her final year attending DigiPen Institute of Technology and unfortunately is about to lose everything. As a Trans-Femme in Games, unfortunately Sakura has lost the support of their family, and has just under a week to figure out how she can finish her education. Having nearly faced homelessness myself, no one should at a young age be dealt such hardship. I understand times are tough for everyone, especially those in our Community. That's why I ask for any and all support in the form of liking, sharing any potential shelter support organizations, or lending any and all spare funds towards Sakura's GoFundMe. If everyone in my network donated just one dollar, Sakura would be able to secure housing and graduate on time alongside her class. As always, thank you all for supporting. Let's help Sakura finish her education!!! ?? Can any Indie friends lend their support? ?? Willem Delventhal Ayla Derrick Alexander Rehm Amanda Lynn C. Different Games Collective Darren P. One of our scholars is in need of financial assistance and we want to ask our network if they are willing to lend a hand! Being cut off financially from family is a devastating moment to go through for many students, especially for LGBTQ+. If we want to have a bright future for games, we should help out students like Sakura!
Hi everyone, I'm establishing a gofundme to help me afford housing and food until I can graduate DigiPen in April of 2024, since I no longer have the financial support of my family. Please repost or donate if you can! https://gofund.me/8ced2a22

? Meet the Scholars! ? Let’s meet two of the final 5 scholars today! Hanh Dang and Paige Webster! Hanh Dang (she/her) is a student at Cal State East Bay, concentrating in video game design for her bachelor's fine art degree. Her aspiration is to work as a Programmer or a 3D artist in games. Her favorite game is Genshin Impact because she loves the character designs, the gameplay, and it's beautiful fantasy setting. Paige Webster (they/them) is studying 2D Art & Game Design at Clark University in Worcester, MA, and helps build community for artists on campus as VP of the Clark University Art Club. Paige treasures the opportunity to form friendships with other creatives, and loves to learn from the people they meet in classes, Game Jams, and other social events, such as PAX East, BostonFIG, and MIT Sloan's Gaming Industry Conference. Their favorite video game is the cult hit Pathologic 2. The violent synergy of Pathologic 2’s story and gameplay, combined with its humanistic core, created a narrative experience that has lived in the back of Paige’s mind for untold months. If art and programming can make the bloody trials of a plague-riddled Russian steppe engaging, Paige believes they can do anything. #scholarship #lgbtq #representation #gaming #gamingindustry

Hi there LinkedIn Network, long time no see! Since I last posted, I put out another game on Steam (Egregore, you should definitely try it out), moved back home for a bit, and got involved in theatre again for the first time in a fair few years! It reignited my passion for creative endeavors regardless of the medium, so much so that I went and completely retooled my portfolio website! I'd love if you would give it a look (even if it's just to watch a bit of a stand-up comedy routine I performed last year)! https://www.banjotears.com/
