Exciting news for Downtown Jacksonville! Gateway Jax is teaming up with Steve Palmer from The Indigo Road Hospitality Group to restore the historic Ambassador Hotel at 420 North Julia Street. Originally opened in 1924, this Georgian Revival gem will be transformed into a luxurious 100+ room hotel, complete with a high-end restaurant, bar, and conference space. The revitalization is part of the larger Pearl Square development, which will bring 1,250 new residential units, vibrant public spaces, and retail to the area. Happening now ??? The official groundbreaking for Pearl Square - Phase 1 of the new Gateway Jax development downtown. Located at 515 N. Pearl Street, the first building will feature 200+ residences and 20,000 square feet of retail. "I can’t wait till I can stroll a few blocks from City Hall and take in the new “Pearl Square,” check out the shops and eateries, and see people enjoying the new downtown hub," said Mayor Donna Deegan during the groundbreaking ceremony Tuesday morning. "Thanks to the team at Gateway Jax, to our Downtown Investment Authority and CEO Lori Boyer, to the City Council, and everyone who worked so hard to make this project a reality." When complete, this $750 million investment will feature 1,250 residences, 200,000 square feet of retail space, more than 1 acre of parks and open spaces, and 150 hotel rooms. The full project could grow to 22 acres and more than 20 blocks with a more than $2 billion investment over the next decade. Pearl Street District garage renovation receives design approval ? from the Downtown Development Review Board (DDRB), one of five buildings in the @gateway_jax $500 million dollar project. Block N5 will transform the Lighthouse parking garage into 10,000 sqft of retail space along Beaver Street. Block N4, N11, and N8 received approval back in December. Legislation regarding incentives for the mixed-use megadevelopment in the North Core will face a City Council vote by August. If all city bodies give the green light, Gateway will break ground this fall with $98.6 million in incentives. Article: Jacksonville Business Journal
