For over thirty years, Gateway has implemented best-in-class solutions for challenging information management problems. We do this using appropriate technology when technology is needed and a full range of consulting services to help improve business processes when that’s needed. Over the years, we have focused our activities on process and energy applications, as well as life-sciences applications. These applications provide a comprehensive framework for all of the elements needed to identify and address safety across a facility’s entire lifecycle. Rainer Hoff, Ph.D., P. Eng. Dr. Hoff is the founder and President of Gateway Consulting Group, an AIChE Fellow. He holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Vanderbilt University and an M.A.Sc and a B.A.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Waterloo. He is a registered professional engineer and a member of Sigma Xi, AIIM, ASME, IEEE and ARRL. Dr. Hoff is an authority on the design and implementation of electronic document management solutions for the chemical, energy and life sciences sectors. His deep understanding of information technology and his ability to lead project teams has been effectively demonstrated in hundreds of projects conducted by Gateway.

Today I received this interesting email about the reliability of safeguards. Anyone care to comment? Here it is: "Hi Rainer, in my experience one of the biggest process safety challenges is identifying the flaws in our safeguards and then correcting them.? Too often we are assuming a reliability for our safeguards based on generic values which turn out to be overly optimistic because of some flaw that was not recognized.? How can we do a better job of uncovering the flaws in our safeguards and correcting them?"
