This past weekend was proclaimed “Flaming Lips Weekend” by Mayor David Holt of Oklahoma City, OK. As a gift to their hometown, the Lips, along with Scott Booker, SaveLive, the recently renovated OKC Zoo Amphitheatre, and so many others, gifted the city two free shows. August 30th was “Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots” in its entirety and August 31st was “The Soft Bulletin” from start to finish. Both nights were jammed back with nearly three hours of Lips hits. We are so proud of our investment in OKC and the local teams at Beer City Music Hall (500 cap), Tower Theatre (1000 cap), Criterion (3500 cap), and the historic Zoo Amphitheatre (10,000 cap).

We recognize the importance of Juneteenth in our nation's history. Juneteenth marks our country’s second Independence Day. Established June 19, 1865, in Galveston Bay, Texas it celebrates the day remaining slaves in Confederate territories were made free under President Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation. This brought on a great movement of family reunification, emphasis on education, self-improvement, and radical pushes to bring African Americans to the forefront of the nation’s politics. This historical legacy is celebrated today to continue to uplift African American communities that are so deeply ingrained in the fabric of the US. It is a day to celebrate the day ALL slaves were made free as we continue to recognize the impact of our history and how it has shaped and continues to shape our country.
